Owner description: One of Lancashire's most historic halls set in the beautiful park of the same name. The history of the Hall itself is full of intrigue, with stories of plotting and religious turmoil. It dates back to Elizabethan times with changes and additions over the centuries, all helping make a visit to the Hall a fascinating and enjoyable experience. This grade 1 listed building is the jewel in Chorley's crown, with stunning plaster work and architectural features. As the town's museum and art gallery it is also home to items of local historical interest. William Shakespeare and Oliver Cromwell are some of the famous guests to stay at the hall.

A visit to the hall and grounds is a great afternoon out, the hall is very historical with ghost stoties of the past, there's also a small cafe behind the hall which is good value.
There's some good wood walks round the grounds, with a small lake for the children to feed the ducks.
Also an ideal place to walk your dog, or have a go at crown green bowling, tennis or putting.
Its worth a visit.

Entry to Astley Hall remains FREE of charge and is well worth a visit. Please check the local council website for opening times. Set in the very beautiful surroundings of Astley Park, the park itself has many other amenities such as: bowling greens, tennis courts, putting green, football pitches (available for hire with changing rooms), woodland walks, wildlife lake, children's play areas, cafe, venue hire, car parks, etc.

A lovely hall to look around with quaint rooms and uneven floors all part of the charming character. You can amble around in under hour but a more detailed examination could take you three hours. They have special ghost tours from time to time- my husband was well spooked and loves showing us the hidden secrets he learnt that night. It was a perfect wedding venue for us, 15 years on we love to reminise. Chrismas time they often do Victorian themed events. Mainly open at weekends but do special events too.
Nearby there is a large open park with play ground and woodland area to explore. To the other side there is a lovely walled garden to stroll or sit with grassed area for children to play. In the barn next door there is a lovely cafe with seating inside and out, depending on the weather.
