“Always a pleasant visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 May 2014 via mobile

We have had many meals here and always enjoyed the dishes served. Catering well for all tastes and plenty choice for vegetarians. The menu has a quirky design to it too. The food is filling, well made, well presented and plenty of it. The restaurant has a nice warm welcoming feel to it, hosting quiz nights weekly. The beer selection is wide with lots of speciality tastes to choose from. The local area is beautiful and has wonderful scenery.
We have also visited here for a large function evening and the restaurant didn't struggle to cater for a large party. Very nice venue.

“What ever happened to service with a smile?”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 May 2014 via mobile

I visited Calf's Head with my family for a nice Sunday meal. First impressions - dated decor. The woman behind the bar was very unfriendly. No smiles or a friendly hello. We were told to wait for our table, she pointed over to a few shabby seats in the corner. We waited about 20 minutes & wasn't even offered a menu to look at.

A man came over and said "Do you think everyone from your party has arrived?".... Yes.... Can't you count? We booked in advance....

We were seated in the conservatory - which is nice. Apart from broken lampshades.

We were served by 3 or 4 waitresses throughout our meal & none of them smiled! So rude! Even when we smiled at them or spoke to them, they just ignored us.

I saw one waitress ask a couple - who literally had food in their mouths & cutlery in their hand, if they had finished their meals! There seemed to be a few diners looking confused as to why the staff were so miserable.

Numerous requests such as drinks & sauces were forgotten about.

The food was good. I had goats cheese salad which was really nice & my partner had a steak which he enjoyed. The prices are quite steep. But everyone enjoyed their food. If only the staff had better manners! It was quite an awkward experience. Especially when one waitress spent 10 minutes clearing our table and didnt say one word.... we all sat in silence.

Lovely garden for the kids to play in. Very picturesque. Gorgeous location.

Overall, quite disappointed as manners cost nothing.

“Food Has A Off Day”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 April 2014

Mothers day March 30.3.14

Nestling at the foot of Pendle Hill the Calf’s Head lies in the Hamblet of Worston in the Ribble Valley.
On entering, the bar area is tired and dull and only can be described as old fashioned. One dining room is also rather dull and tired looking, the other larger dining room, however is modern, bright and welcoming. The gardens surrounding the pub are picturesque, well-kept with a balling brook running through and popular for wedding parties.
The staff during our visit were friendly and helpful.
We visited on Mothers day (30.3.14) and chose the £13.99 carvery – Big Mistake!
We had pre-booked and dined mid-afternoon approx. 2pm.
The food available was very poor – practically inedible. Luke warm, dried up and not appetising. The buffet needed replenishing and renewing.
In fact we had to complain and ask for some freshly cooked food particularly the vegetarian options. Which were dreadful. Sad to say the newly arrived food was not much better.
Having visited the Calf’s Head on numerous occasions I have to say the food is ‘Hit and Miss.
It would appear any problems the Calf’s Head have lie within the kitchen. Although I have experienced some good meals at this establishment alongside some disappointing ones, I am reluctant to recommend due to the inconsistency of the food. And will not be in a hurry to return.
