“A real welcome”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 June 2013

I had a friendly reception from the landlord who showed me to my bedroom (the Miss Whiplash Room of all things! (She'd stayed there once apparently!]) The evening disco was well supported but not overly noisy. The bed, duvet and pillows were perfect and a good sleep was enjoyed. The room was well equipped and well supplied with tea, coffee etc. The food was very good and a very 'exotic' menu was available. Although I'd not noticed herds of Zebra in the Lancashire hills, one of the items on offer was zebra steaks! The beer was good and the locals friendly and the price was right. What's not to like?

My cousin from Germany and his wife, my husband and I were invited to a wedding in Whitewell. We booked overnight accommodation at the Swan and Royal. Our stay was fantastic, the food was wonderful, the rooms were spacious and comfortable and the staff were helpful and friendly. Would most definitely stay here again.

Visited lunchtime on new years eve. Loads of seating. Seemed a little dark but most pubs are these days! Loads to choose from the menu and a great specials board which showcased local food - nice touch. Prices are very reasonable and service very quick.

Have stayed here both before and after the fire.Terry and his staff make you most welcome and the bedrooms are warm clean and comfortable. The breakfast is a typical hearty Lancashire feed and could last you all day especially if like us you are heading home.
The bar can be a bit crowded of an evening but that only goes to show how the locals appreciate thsi old established hotel. Will stay here again.

Room Tip: The rooms are named after famous people who have stayed here. such as Frank Whittle Rooms to the bac...

Stopped over on our way to Scotland. We were late arriving so missed the food but we had a warm welcome and several drinks. The staff were very friendly and told us all about the hotel and the big fire they had had a few years ago. Room was clean and comfy, shower a little dodgy but that was mainly down to me fighting with the shower curtain (could of done with a screen). My only real complaint was that the room seemed a little dark even with all the lights on. Good hearty breakfast the next day and we were on our way.

Stayed here at the end of August, me, hubby and 2 kids. Very warm welcome from hosts Terry and Carol, room excellent and spacious, food excellent - very accommodating for my 2 fussy children! Breakfast extremely good. Would definitely stay again, and would recommend it to friends.

Room Tip: The family room is spacious for 2 adults and 2 children.
