We were another family booked in for a wedding and this area was completely unknown to us. Just in case, we gave it the once over in April and having had a couple of beers in the bar thought it a little pricy, but then again, it was hotel prices. A pitty the weather turned at the end of July but at least it didn't rain.
The wedding to my surprise, was as near to a standard church wedding but without the stigma of a church. The scenery surrounding the hotel was all you could ask for to get those ideal lawn type wedding photo's and the grounds went on for acres. The building itself was a fine backdrop for some super photos.
The bar.could not have been better with a wide expance of windows opening out onto a terrace with seating outside. This however could not be said of the cider on sale that night. The main bar closed early evening and the wedding room bar opened to a complete change in taste and flavour, not what you want with a complete night of drinking ahead.
The wedding itself was held in what later became the dining room which later changed again into the evening bar and entertainment room.
The rooms I saw were all in the old building and although our room was nice, very clean and spacious, it did suffur from noise from kitchen ventilation fans and air conditioning units on ajacent external walls.Wasn't all that keen on the two single beds put together to make a king, but for one night I could out up with it. There was a well stocked brew area, equipped with the usual tea/coffee and buscuite facilities. The bathroom was exceptionally large and very clean and we could not find fault it. I have read a couple of reports that the earlier weather (that we just missed) made the rooms too hot, but we didn't get any of that.
Both the wedding meal and the morning breakfast were of a good standard and so I will stick my kneck out and suggest that the hotel restaurant should be of a similar standard.
All in all, I was surprised.

Room Tip: Stay awayfrom rooms overlooking the kitchen area. especially in hot weather when you have windows open.

We stayed for a wedding reception and as a wedding venue it was lovely, lovely grounds, lovely building and a background to super photos. We enjoyed pimms and canopies in a lovely sunshine filled bar..could not be better, there was also seating outside. Our wedding was held in a lovely dining room which changed for our evening entertainment. The staff were excellent, very polite each time we met one in a corridor, well done to all. The rooms..our room was nice, well equipped with tea & coffee facilities, iron and board if one was needed. One window didnt open it had a sticker on but the other one did and we needed it open as it was very warm in our room. The bathroom was very large and very clean, no complaints at all. A ceiling fan would of been very welcome with our extreme English summer. My sister also stayed in a room which was lovely and very large and comfortable but it did have a large damp mouldy patch on the ceiling from a leak in the room above i presume. Both rooms very warm but comfortable, we stayed for a wedding breakfast and was served once again by polite friendly staff. It was a lovely hotel to stay, with the price i feel it a bit of a treat, so feel it could be more updated in public areas decor wise. Free wifi throughout the hotel. I would recommend to my friends.

This review is late as we stayed in March 2014. Judging by the pictures I really thought I had a bargain for a romantic overnighter, and so booked a couples package. My companion had suffered a broken leg prior to our stay and so I asked for a ground floor room which we got. The room itself was spacious , impressive and clean, though the bed was one of the most uncomfortable I have ever slept in. It soon transpired that our package had been incorrectly booked and so we never received any of the extras we should have had. The receptionist offered to go and get flowers etc but it seemed abit late to be bothering.

The bar area was great and the (brazillian? ) bar tender was friendly and attentive. We had dinner in a beautiful dining room, but felt uncomfortable as we were the only diners. We did question whether the room was haunted as the staff didnt seem to want to hang about either. The menu was impressive, at least on paper, but the food was over cooked and slapdash.

Breakfast was the same, microwaved scrambled eggs in a Marie Celeste atmosphere.

We gave up and left in the end, not angry but very disappointed.

We had a great stay for a wedding but was shocked to find the was no air con. The window only opened a few inches and we clocked it at 34c at night in the room. We thought they would at least have a large fan in each room but no. Room 7 was like a oven so if it's a hot day just hope you don't get that room as you just can't breath in the heat. Shame really as everything else was great. The grounds are fantastic and the rooms look great but when it's so hot you can't bare to be in them for long. Take ur own fan with you if your staying on a hot day.

Thank you for your comments on Trip Advisor, I am pleased you enjoyed your stay, normally the bedrooms don't require air conditioning, however last week the weather was beautiful sunshine and very warm, perfect for a summer wedding, however apologies for any discomfort you felt whilst in the bedroom.

We had been given a voucher for a deluxe afternoon tea and we used it on Wednesday 23rd July. We were the only customers so had the allocated room to ourselves.
It was very disappointing.
The table had been laid out with the standard breakfast crockery and the tea arrived in a standard pot, no fancy china here like you get in other hotels that offer this service.
The waiter was a charming, polite young man who had never worked on the afternoon tea shift before and didn’t appear to have had much training. We were not offered the choice of tea that the hotel advertises. The tea we were served was fine although we had to go looking for the waiter when we needed a top up.
There was a good selection of cakes and sandwiches. In fact there was more than we could manage so we asked if we could take the remainder home. After signing a disclaimer, we were handed the cakes in a foil wrapped parcel. However, when we opened them later, the cakes had all been squashed together and bore no resemblance to the ones that were on the cake stand earlier. In fact they were so fused together we couldn’t eat them.
The idea of a voucher as a gift is great, however the experience at this particular hotel is nothing special.
