“Nice place to have a wedding but...”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 August 2014

Upon arrival at 11am, obviously we weren't expecting to check in until 2. The rooms weren't ready for us before 2pm to make preparations for the wedding, so the toilet facilities were our only option.

Just after 2 I decided to ask if our room was available, inwhich we were told it wasn't, so again we were forced to get some gifts ready in the car park.

4 o'clock came and we were told yet again that the rooms weren't ready and that they should be by the end of the wedding dinner.

Another hour passed and the room had to be checked if it was done and then we finally could check in.

After asking for a discount for the inconvienience the manager told us that check in is from 2 and they only have limited staff to clean the rooms and that he would rather give us clean rooms than unkept.

We weren't the only people having problems with check in, there were at least 4 - 5 other families that we're experiencing the same problem.

My aunty who is 92 who has mobility problems had the same, but unfortunately, her room wasn't ready after three hours of waiting.

No compensation was given, only excusses, but those excusses seem like bad management and caused a mass of inconvience for many people. Check in after 2 to many hotels refers to the customers benefit, not to the convience of the hotels. We're paying for a service and the staff and management don't seem to concern themselves over this point. Get more staff if you can't apply yourself.

I've stayed at many hotels and never come across this ridiculous runaround.

I wouldn't recommend this service to anyone due to staff attitude which I though was poor at best.

Stayed at the hotel last weekend for a wedding. Reception staff were really helpful and friendly even if I had to wait a while for my room.
The setting for the wedding was really great and they pulled out all the stops. Food and service during the meal were great too, they managed to find me a gluten free meal even though it hadn't actually been ordered. Rooms were a bit tired and the windows didn't open so was a bit stuffy in the room but not a major disaster.
Breakfast was good, they put on a buffet for the wedding guests, all in all had a good stay and couldn't fault the place

Room Tip: Juniro suite bed a bit too soft, other beds seemed OK

Quaint hotel based on 19th century manor house.

Very nice breakfast.

Rooms have plenty of room and are clean and well kept. Lots of parking.

Be prepared to climb at least one spiral staircase and you may have a long walk to your room.

Room Tip: The rooms at the front involve less walking, though all rooms require climbing a spiral staircase in...

Booked the afternoon tea with champagne for a change of scenery and certainly weren't disappointed. When we arrived (Sunday afternoon) there was a large wedding party going on but we were quickly sorted out and shown through to the separate lounge area specifically set out for afternoon tea. Several customers were already at various stages of their own, we ordered a glass of champagne and tea and coffee which was promptly served after which we ordered our sandwiches (not a huge selection) - my wife commented that people seemed to be leaving a lot of food and wondered about the quality - however when it arrived it wasn't the quality it was the quantity that was the problem we both sat and ate as much as we could be couldn't manage to finish it off - first time for us on an afternoon tea. Certainly good quality products, well presented and more than enough for everybody on the day we were there....

This is a highly recommended venue for anyone wanting to experience a very tasty afternoon tea. The sandwiches were delicious with plenty of choice. The cakes were definitely home made and tasted divine. The staff were really friendly and couldn't have done more for us.

Especially recommended for anyone travelling up or down the M6 Motorway.

We were another family booked in for a wedding and this area was completely unknown to us. Just in case, we gave it the once over in April and having had a couple of beers in the bar thought it a little pricy, but then again, it was hotel prices. A pitty the weather turned at the end of July but at least it didn't rain.
The wedding to my surprise, was as near to a standard church wedding but without the stigma of a church. The scenery surrounding the hotel was all you could ask for to get those ideal lawn type wedding photo's and the grounds went on for acres. The building itself was a fine backdrop for some super photos.
The bar.could not have been better with a wide expance of windows opening out onto a terrace with seating outside. This however could not be said of the cider on sale that night. The main bar closed early evening and the wedding room bar opened to a complete change in taste and flavour, not what you want with a complete night of drinking ahead.
The wedding itself was held in what later became the dining room which later changed again into the evening bar and entertainment room.
The rooms I saw were all in the old building and although our room was nice, very clean and spacious, it did suffur from noise from kitchen ventilation fans and air conditioning units on ajacent external walls.Wasn't all that keen on the two single beds put together to make a king, but for one night I could out up with it. There was a well stocked brew area, equipped with the usual tea/coffee and buscuite facilities. The bathroom was exceptionally large and very clean and we could not find fault it. I have read a couple of reports that the earlier weather (that we just missed) made the rooms too hot, but we didn't get any of that.
Both the wedding meal and the morning breakfast were of a good standard and so I will stick my kneck out and suggest that the hotel restaurant should be of a similar standard.
All in all, I was surprised.

Room Tip: Stay awayfrom rooms overlooking the kitchen area. especially in hot weather when you have windows op...

We stayed for a wedding reception and as a wedding venue it was lovely, lovely grounds, lovely building and a background to super photos. We enjoyed pimms and canopies in a lovely sunshine filled bar..could not be better, there was also seating outside. Our wedding was held in a lovely dining room which changed for our evening entertainment. The staff were excellent, very polite each time we met one in a corridor, well done to all. The rooms..our room was nice, well equipped with tea & coffee facilities, iron and board if one was needed. One window didnt open it had a sticker on but the other one did and we needed it open as it was very warm in our room. The bathroom was very large and very clean, no complaints at all. A ceiling fan would of been very welcome with our extreme English summer. My sister also stayed in a room which was lovely and very large and comfortable but it did have a large damp mouldy patch on the ceiling from a leak in the room above i presume. Both rooms very warm but comfortable, we stayed for a wedding breakfast and was served once again by polite friendly staff. It was a lovely hotel to stay, with the price i feel it a bit of a treat, so feel it could be more updated in public areas decor wise. Free wifi throughout the hotel. I would recommend to my friends.
