“No air!”
Reviewed 20 May 2013

booked in as a surprise night away, upon first impressions looked lovely. Friendly check-in, given directions up to room getting there was like Alice in wonderland down the rabbit hole. Opened the door to the room upon first impressions lovely. Upon further investigation windows painted shut. I am sure this is illegal?!The room smelt of stale smoke and damp combined. Rubbish left by previous occupants in the bedside cabinets dirty tissue and empty tablet strip. Dreadful night sleep due to the lack of air. Left early as had work commitments not a soul in sight at 7.45 to check out to.............

How do places like this fall under the radar.
Great location. Great food at reasonable prices. Spacious rooms, free WiFi. You must be mad not to stay here. Even the locals will sit and chat. It's a home from home sort of place

Room Tip: Room 8, 5 or 101 are the best

We have stayed at various hotels around the Wyre and South Cumbria but our 'radar' completely missed this hotel - because it was..........too cheap!!!
We have dismissed hotels on the whole below £55 pn on previous poor experiences throughout the UK. However, we do read reviews and [thank goodness] the reviews looked 'out-of-sync' with the price. We decided to give it a try on that basis. Directions were not precise but it is basically 200m north of the Garstang/Cockerham Road on the A6. Loads of parking space and a nice big inviting reception area. A warm greeting was followed by a large basic but very clean room with a super new bathroom. Tea and coffee making facilities are provided and the room service charge is ultra reasonable! We had decided on bed, breakfast and evening meal for £79 for 2 and went through to the very relaxed and welcoming 'pub' area at 6.30pm.
There were plenty of cosy tables and a lovely atmosphere with friendly faces and a nice amount of ambient conversation - delightful place to enjoy a meal. And what enjoyment! A smoked haddock tart that was exquisite followed by a superb 'not so Chicken Kiev' with veg and new potatoes for me and 'the best lamb shank for size and quality that I've ever had' for my wife plus a bespoke Eton Mess that was hand-ceafted from meringue, cream and interred strawberries!! mmmm! What a brilliant way to spend an hour or two with a couple of drinks from the nice range of ales - Moorhouses bitter, very pleasant indeed. The bar and waiting staff were super and nothing was too much trouble. A super night's sleep in very quiet, sound-insulated room completed the day. Breakfast was taken in the spacious and well daylit residents area followed by coffee in the comfortable and open plan lounge.
Th equality and service provided by Nicola and her crew punches well above this price hence I am hesitant to recommend it lest she increases the price. But the true facts are that this is seriously too good a value to miss. I would happily have paid £45-50 for the quality of the evening food alone! All IMHO but we will certainly stay again.
The charming village of Garstang is only a short walk away and very easy to absorb time in its lovely surroundings. Absolutely first class stay.

We had an overnight stay during the Easter break with our friends. It was refreshing to stay in such a nice comfortable hotel with extremely nice and friendly staff The room was spacious and spotlessly clean It is ideally located on the main road ,easy to find and near to the town centre It is also a good place for a function or meeting We ate in the bar in the evening ,which was warm and cosy with an excellent standard of well presented food The breakfast was cooked to order and plenty of choice We would certainly stay here again and our friends were also very impressed and would return

Room Tip: The rooms at the back are quiet as the road at the front can be busy

It is always great to get such wonderful comments from a regular reviewer! Thank you for highlighting all the great things that the Crofters has to offer. As a independent, family owned business, it is sometimes difficult to get the message out, when competing with the huge advertising power of the big operators, especially as we are able to offer very good value without head office overheads. It is very much appreciated when our lovely guests take the time to tell others about their good experience. We hope to see you all again at the Crofters.
Kind regards

We had little choice of hotels as for some reason Garstang appeared to be the epicentre of something over the weekend, but based on price and location we booked two double rooms at the Crofters for two nights.

Both rooms were reasonably spacious, nicely decorated and generally met the expectations of a 3* hotel. It was an exceptionally cold weekend and the whole hotel was quite cold, but then everywhere was bitterly cold too.

Breakfast was lovely, choice of cereals, fruit, full English etc. we also enjoyed a nice evening meal in the Tavern at the Crofters. Food was good and despite the cold we enjoyed the meal.

Location wise we couldn't have been better placed for visiting the family, plus it's on the main route and so was easy to find and had good links to the surrounding area.

The staff were all exceptional and the service was good.

Would I return? I think if I had to then I would, but I suspect there are better hotels for the price in the area based on the fact they were all fully booked and this wasn't, so I would probably try another hotel first.

Thankyou for highlighting the great staff and facilities at the Crofters. All the limited number of hotels in Garstang, including the Crofters were full this particular weekend for their own various functions, which is often the case. What a shame that you marked us down at the end for actually being able to accommodate you! Bedroom availability in most hotels can vary from hour to hour, and it is always worth contacting any hotel at the last minute regarding availability.
We hope to welcome you again at the Crofters.
Kind regards

We chose this hotel for the price and location and it was perfect. We were down the road from Barton Grange garden centre, our prime reason. Five minutes by car was a pleasant walk in Garstang and then 20 minutes away was a retail park on the outskirts of Preston. We arrived early and left the cases which had been taken to our room on our return. The room was fine for the money and the amount of time spent in it. The rooms are upstairs on the first floor with no lift. The room had a kettle, TV and even an iron. The staff were friendly upon arrival but never asked if we wanted dinner or what time breakfast was, in fact we were not told anything. The bar was good, we went down early around six and there were a few in. By seven it was filling up and we ordered our food that was above average and good value for £28 for two starters and two mains. Overall the bar had one of the best atmospheres of any hotel bar we have been in. At £2.70 for a good real ale it was fine and went down well. The evening we were there there was a soul night on although the real ale had the desired effect and bed called. In the room the music from downstairs could be heard so if you were sober it may have been annoying. Breakfast was fine but they do need a menu on the table so you know what hot food is on offer before the waitress asks you what you want. The cereal and fresh fruit selection was good. Finally the car park was huge and the hotel was great for a good price.

Room Tip: Ask for one away from above the function room and exit

Reviews from the long term Trip Advisor Community are always helpful. Thanks for highlighting the value for money aspect. As a family owned hotel, we continue to work hard to please. The soul night is a monthly event at only £4 entry, which proves to be very popular, along with our jazz nights, cinema nights and gardening club!
