“Weekend away with daughter could have been better”
Reviewed 12 September 2013

We stayed at this hotel at the weekend as we had a party in the area on Saturday evening. When we arrived one of the rooms we had booked had a terrible smokers smell and we couldn't have stayed in there all night. The young girl on reception said it was non smoking hotel but did come up and agreed with us that it smelled like somebody had indeed been smoking so she moved us to a smaller room. I would have thought there would be an inspection of rooms after cleaning or a cleaner would have picked up the smell and alerted management. The room we were put in seemed fine and on a positive note there is free wifi which worked very well and is a real bonus. When we used the shower however it was clear it had not been cleaned well as there was a very long red hair on the tiles ...very off putting in a hotel room and made us think again about the cleaning regime. Breakfast was fine although nobody welcomed us or showed us where anything was, we were not impressed with flasks of water for tea and coffee having stayed in many B& B s and hotels recently at breakfast you normally get a fresh pot of tea or coffee. The table we sat at the top spun around so we had to move ( ourselves as nobody about). Also found it strange that we were just asked do you want breakfast and had to ask what it was..no menu and no choice of eggs etc offered. Saying that the food was fine when it came. Wen paying the young man on reception asked if everything and been ok and I said yes apart from a few problems and described them. He just looked awkward and said oh hope your next stay will be better which didn't inspire confidence in me. A shame but felt even though not expensive these points let it down badly and we did think the decor and feel was dated.

All our rooms are strictly non smoking, although, as in all hotels, there are always a few inconsiderate people who flout the law. On the very rare occasions that smokers do this, we always leave at least a couple of days without using the room if we smell smoke, but as a non smoker myself, I realise that any lingering smoke can be an irritation. Let me assure you that no amount of cleaning will clear this overnight. We do clearly state that there will be a charge of £100, but even this and the law does not deter the determined smoker.
We provide freshly ground coffee and an array of teas for breakfast which guests are welcome to take as much as they like. Guests too are welcome to ask for any type of egg, or any combination of breakfast.
Thank you for your comments and we look forward to welcoming you at the Crofters in the future.

We booked online for a couple of nights in this hotel . Unfortunately when we arrived and walked in to the hotel there was a distinct musty smell. (This smell had nothing to do with the farmers working in the fields although this is what we were told) We asked to see the bedrooms and the receptionist showed us the bedrooms which were two flights of stairs up ( no lift) . Both bedrooms were tired looking and our bedroom (14) had obviously had a problem with the lock as the member of staff had difficulty opening the door and the door face was all splintered as if someone had tried to break in. The bedrooms also looked tired and did not feel pristine. We along with our friends decided that this was not a hotel we wished to stay in. We were charged for 1 nights stay £118 for the 2 rooms which we were told was company policy. On a good point both lady members of staff we spoke to were friendly enough .

This is a little mean spirited when you haven't even stayed at the hotel. I realise that you were disgruntled when you cancelled your room after 3pm on the day of arrival, but cancellation policies are in place to protect both the guest, ensuring they have a room for the night, and the hotel. 95 per cent of guest are lovely, but there is a small minority who can be a challenge.

we had to change my daughters wedding venue as the hotel closed down, all that was availble was crofters as it was bank holiday weekend. and how great this turned out to be. everything from the planning with nicola to the actual day was spot on in every way.
the room how they set the tables etc was lovely, the staff were great, and the bar staff absolutely brilliant, the food was so good, tasty, set out lovely, could not fault the food perfect in every way.
in fact the whole day, night and the overnight stay with breakfast was fantasic and faultless, i would totally recomend for your wedding venue.

The wedding reception I attended was a marvellous experience. The surroundings were lovely and the staff were extremely helpful and polite. During the afternoon and evening the food was excellent. Highly recommended and would consider another visit.

We stayed at this convenient hotel en route to Edinburgh - we needed an economic place to stay for one night but a bit different from the usual anonymous chains and with some food on offer. This was very good value with generous sized room and a good range of home cooked food for most taste. The chef had some presentational flair and I would say that the food was above standard pub grub. Only downside was the glass of house red which had a lot of sediment - this was raised with the bar staff and I think they will be more careful in future.

Overall a positive experience and we will stay again.

Stayed here with my elderly Dad who has trouble managing stairs. It never occurred to me to check when booking that there was a lift as I thought hotels were required to make sure their premises were accessible for all guests. As there are no rooms on the ground floor all rooms can only be accessed by stairs which are relatively steep too.

Access to the rooms aside, the hotel was very clean and comfy and the attached bar had an excellent choice of food and drinks. The location is also ideal for picking up the M6 motorway.

Me and my partner stayed here overnight en route to Wales. Very comfortable clean room. We had evening meal which was quite nice, pub grub standard, but adequate. Staff were okay, mostly young and polite enough. Breakfast was good quality, lots of choice. Overall a pleasant stay, and we would use again, very good value.
