A terrrible drive up the M6 after a long week at work and my partner and I were at our wits end. We got to the hotel late having rung beforehand to ensure that we could have a table in the restaurant and this was accommodated without question. As soon as we checked in, we both sighed with relief because the staff and the hotel are immediately welcoming and comforting. The staff did their absolute best to help us relax and the room was lovely. The shower was powerful and took away the day. The hotel decor is a little dated but this is like an old home and there is nothing wrong with that. The food in the restaurant was tasty I would recommend anything on the menu. The beds are very soft and if there is only one little quibble, I could hear somebody in another room snoring but then I am pretty sensitive to noise and it wasn't too much of a problem. The breakfast menu is extensive and you definitely wont go away hungry. When I got the bill for the weekend, they had even given me the most preferential rate they could use and that's unusual these days. Stay somewhere else at your peril.

Room Tip: They are all good.

Our second visit & just as good as the last . The staff are amazing can't do enough for you . As always superb food . The weather in February when we stayed was really awful very wet & very very windy . Some of the chimney pot fell down & broke a lot of slates on the roof out side our window (Gisburn suite) no sooner had we reported it than it was repaired brill. The weather being so bad kept us in more than we would normally be , but the cosy open fires & ambience more than made up for it .thank you we will be back .

Room Tip: If you enjoy good food this is the place .

After calling in for coffee and a sandwich when we have been in the area a couple of times in the past, we had looked forward to having the opportunity to try the hotel for a short break. We stayed two nights 11th 12th March, having booked a suite (room 6) on a dbb basic on the winter deal.on arrival we were shown to the room which was found to be of a very high standard, a nice lounge area, large bedroom, and bathroom with a large walk in shower and whirlpool bath.
What now seems to be unusual in most hotels but not at the Stirk House is the fact that all the staff appear to be local,we came in contact with about a dozen different staff and without exception all were really helpful pleasant and couldn't have done more to make you feel welcome.
The food at both breakfast and dinner was of a very high standard, with a good choice available for both. On the second night my wife's steak was, so I am told one of the best she has ever had.
Overall the Stirk House is a real gem, very very hard to fault but very very easy to praise.

Room Tip: We did not see inside any other rooms other than ours, the separate block to the right of the hotel...

If you want excellent food, comfortable bedroom, log fires and super staff, then look no further. Add in amazing value for money and interesting grounds plus a great area of the country to explore. I could wax lyrical on this hotel for a long time, (and have done so to all our friends!) but perhaps the best recommendation is that we have made the trip from near London three times
in the last 8 months and have already booked the next trip, with friends. Living in the London area, it's wonderful to find a place like Stirk House that provides such an all round great experience, with superb dinner and breakfasts (plus the added extras of a bottle of wine and cream tea thrown in) at such a reasonable price.

Room Tip: The suites in the main house are excellent value, extremely comfortable and well worth the small add...

An excellent hotel in every respect - superb food, friendly professional staff, comfortable beds and a strong commitment to sustainability. At the current prices for short-stay breaks, an absolute bargain. The only (minor) quibbles, a rather tired swimming pool and electric showers in the lodge but with food of this quality who is complaining?

We stayed here with our friends who had stayed the previous year and where very impressed. The staff are very good and as previouisly stated not over powering but very sincere. The rooms had all you need and very clean but the Food was exceptional. The Hotel also has free wi-fi which was not advertised on the Website, they have lots of maps to take for local walks as well.

We would have no hesitation of recommending this hotel.
