“Super....smashing....great!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 May 2014

My wife and I booked a special weekend at Stirk House to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. This was a fact that we didn't share with the hotel but I don't think the service and the food could have been any better even if we had. The staff were excellent throughout and this is probably the greatest level of service we have received in any hotel in the UK that we have stayed in. The dinner on both evenings were outstanding and prepared by a Head Chef who understands food, wine, and his guests. Breakfast is just as superb. My recommendation is try it for yourself....you will not be disappointed. Expensive but justifiably so.
A stunning location for a romantic getaway.

Room Tip: If your budget can stretch go for a Manor House Suite....the height of luxury.

Food of the highest quality relaxing background music while chilling out in this 16th century Manor House set in its own grounds. Award winning breakfast. Will stay again, great place to get away from it all. Beautiful room and quite with comfortable king size bed.

We had a wonderful two night break at Stirk House. Brilliant peaceful location, lovely spacious room and bathroom, great decor and everywhere spotlessly clean. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were all friendly, efficient and very welcoming. Delicious food and a great menu. The breakfast was the best we have ever had. The weather was so good that we didn't have time to use the spa as we spent our time touring the area. We will definitely go back.

What a lovelly hotel. It is worth visiting for the fantastic food alone never mind staying as a hotel guest. I have never experienced such a wonderfull breakfast as this, with the waiter coming amongst our golf group with a hot plate of more bacon, sausages, mushrooms etc asking if we would like a top up! The cooked breakfast was beautifully prepared with our munber picking and choosing their own selections from the full English breakfast shown on the menu. The service of the staff was top drawer and they knew we were there to enjoy ourselfs and they couldn't do enough for us. This is a country house hotel so you have to forgive the noisy plumbing and the basic bathroom facilities and the weak electric shower over the bath. That said the room was of a good size with modern furniture and carpets that looked as though they had been renewed not long ago. Too often country house hotels look a little unloved and threadbare but not Stirk House. The management seem to on top of repairs and renewals. If the breakfast was oustanding then the evening meal was even better and worth the trip there alone. Whoever the chef is they should keep hold of him/her as our group seleted most of the options on the menu and all were in agreement as to how good the food was. Again evening service in the dining room and at the bar was first class and we lacked for nothiing. Well done to all at Stirk House. Do go and see for yourselves. There is a well equipped gym, pool and spa that you would not normally expect at such a place and this only adds to the great experience at the Stirk House Hotel.

We have visited Stirk house on numerous occasions and have sampled the evening food and afternoon tea. We also got married here in August of last year. Such an amazing venue made even better by the staff and the stupendous food. Beautiful inside and out, the staff cant do enough for you (they work there butts off). The suites are stunning and so luxurious. Would not hesitate to recommend this venue, fit for royalty.

We used Stirk House as the venue for our wedding reception and we were blown away, every detail was even better than we could have imagined.
The staff were very attentive and couldn't do enough for you, even when faced with the usual wedding dramas (my dad had left his coat in the wedding car which was en route back to base when we realised) the staff took everything in hand and made sure that all we focused on was enjoying our day. The experience and knowledge the staff have, especially when dealing with weddings, shone through, nothing was too much trouble. The staff are an asset to the hotel, so pleasant, polite and friendly.
The food was amazing, so delicious, plenty of it and clearly of high quality. There was a wide range of choices given to us to choose from and all dietary requirements were catered for vegetarians, allergies, even fussy eaters.
It goes without saying at this point the evening reception went without a hitch and our guests were able to dance the night away with a great resident DJ, who catered to all musical tastes, taking time to speak with myself and my husband to see if there were any particular types of music we wanted playing more than others or special songs, including the first dance and a lovely 'excuse me' song and dance straight after the first dance.
Evening food was sausage and bacon sandwiches, cheese on toast and potato wedges, which there was plenty of and served hot.
Our bedroom was phenomenal, so luxurious, we felt like a king and queen. The bed was huge, bathroom and jacuzzi bath-amazing! And the view was so fantastic.
Breakfast the following day was again delicious with so much choice and of amazing quality.
The whole day was enjoyed by every guest. We're still talking about it 12 months on. My husband and I are returning this month to the hotel..........watch this space for, what will be I'm sure, an equally amazing review!

Room Tip: For a special occassion, push the boat out and book a luxury suite, it's worth every penny. Howe...

Good food in the dining room and at breakfast, and a warm welcome, made up for some of the disappointing aspects to this hotel. The main gripe was the mattress which was far far too soft. The bed was king sized but the mattress was hopeless. I have never slept in such a soft bed and it was very uncomfortable. This hotel seems to be trying very hard, because we had a cream tea thrown into the price, there was a free desert wine at dinner, and a free homemade biscuit upon leaving. We didn't really want any of these things, and it seems a bit wasteful. I would prefer to stay at a hotel which worked hard to get the basics right, instead of being distracted by the fancy frills.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view, to avoid overlooking the "Lodge" which looks like a motel
