“Friendly staff carry it through”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

Stayed there on many occasions during the back half of 2013 due to working in the area. Many good points to recommend at the Stirk - the standard of the food is excellent, lounge and bar area very comfortable, (where you'll find a good pint of Hen Harrier) and the beds are quite honestly the most comfortable I've ever slept in - and I live my life in hotels! Only a couple of points for improvement - the menu is quite limited for those staying there often and could benefit from a wider range of simpler food. In addition, the rooms in the lodge are somewhat tired. That said, as others have pointed out, the staff are incredibly friendly and make the whole Stirk experience an enjoyable one.

Room Tip: The suites are very well appointed, but cost more. The lodge rooms are cheaper but pretty basic.

What stood out most about our stay was the friendliness of the staff. From the reception to the bar, all were friendly, chatty and down-to-earth, as you'd expect in this part of the world. Rooms were ok - nothing special, but clean and comfortable enough. Wonderful breakfasts - very large servings and very high quality - very good cooked breakfast menu to choose from. Highly recommended

We stayed at this hotel in August 2014 and found everything delightful. The rooms seem to be comfortable, our suite certainly was and the suites are affordable. The ambience is good and the staff so pleasant. It has an excellent restaurant with old fashioned service, a modern leisure centre in the grounds and wonderful nature lovers space. Large areas of field alive with birds and altogether great space and comfort. Absolutely top notch. It needs a lift, but on the other hand there are staff to porter the bags,

Room Tip: Go for a suite, worth the extra, but I believe that all the "classic" rooms are good. It...

Gorgeous place! We had afternoon tea - hot buttered toast fingers and home made honey, then a three tiered stand with finger sandwiches, cakes and scones. Plus unlimited loose leaf tea. Service was excellent, nothing too much trouble. Would definitely recommend!!!

Stopped for 2 nights bed and breakfast. Price was very reasonable and food was amazing. Easy to find and views were lovely. Nice seating areas outside, lovely walking routes and views. We stayed in the lodges which are slightly dated but for the cost we paid you can't complain. The lodge views looked wonderful even though we got the room opposite the pylon outside, you forget about it and it wasn't really an issue at all. Rooms do get warm in the summer as they are little sun traps.
Breakfasts were amazing and food from the bar were great well worth trying. Food and drinks reasonably priced. Thought coffee was the biggest cost strangely. Dogs are allowed and you could smell that They had previously been in the room but it wasn't too offensive. If allergic to dogs you are better to enquire which rooms are best. The service was second to non. Very helpful in everyway. Would def return. Can imagine the venue being ideal for a wedding to take place. Be aware of wasps also, but then it's the country and the warm weather brings them out. Would recommend this hotel. We laid double for a 4 star the previous week in the lakes and I preferred this hotel in every way.

Room Tip: Room 47 is the lodge with the pylon outside but it really isn't an issue.

We celebrated our Niece's wedding here recently and was very impressed, the grounds and the buildings are beautiful with stunning views across the adjacent fields. The party went without a hitch, the food, service and decor was spot on. We didnt stop overnight but from comments from our in laws they said it was superb, especially the wonderful breakfast. I would have no hesitation therefore in recommending The Stirk House for your wedding venue.

Our fourth visit in 13 months, this time meeting up with friends. Food as excellent as ever, with almost too much choice and the inevitable disappointment of not being able to taste all the exciting dishes! Faultless service and great value for money on the Summer Wine and Dine deal. Our Scottish friends loved it as much as we do, so plans to make this a regular meeting point.
The superb staff deserve special mention - they all seem to do that extra bit to make your stay so comfortable and to meet any requests with a smile.
