Booked in for a birthday treat for my mother in law and the three of us had the carvery.A bit strange as it's plated for you, however you can ask for as little or as much you want on your plate.Generous portions and served on large hot plates(brownie points for that) Good selection of veg. Most enjoyable meal
Because it was a Tuesday and not knowing that there was a special offer on for carvery meals as pointed out to us by the bar staff was a bonus. Had a slight problem with the bill as we had been charged for six carverys, but that wa.s easily sorted out

Me and my partner had a on the spot decided to take a risk and see if we cud get in at the Tap House in Sunday 28th July 2013.
The restaurant was fully booked but they gave us the option of sitting in the bar area. Which was not a problem to us as its a pleasant seating area.
The staff set out table up.
All very welcoming and well mannered.
We then processed to the amazing choice of carvery they have.
My mouth water watering at the fresh food and choice In from of me!
Chicken in sauce
Steak pie
Joints of meat!

With all the trimmings
And more

We opted for the pie roast dinner

While serving the carvery the staff we very chatty and friendly
Perfect for our visit to the pub.
And when my meal was plated the waitress very kindly ask if I wished for someone to take my plate over to our table as I was on crutches
How nice is that!
My partner and I noticed that the place was busy but yet all glasses and dirty plates were collected in no time at all.
No puddles of beer over the bar area too.
Like I said I cant fault them in any shape or form.

The meal cost £8 per person.
Some say that price might be expensive. We say completely worth every penny and more
The food was cooked perfect, nice big portions ( my man was happy with that)
Food was hot and tasted fresh.
I can't "big" up this meal anymore ..

I could go on and on about our visit. You get the picture it was a 10/10 visit on all points.

We would like to thank everyone for our visit.
We traveled from Repton to eat there and it was well worth it and we will return very soon.
( Beer festival YEAH!! )

Oohhhh pedigree was tasty!!!

Didn't try the food, but visited for a bank holiday weekend beer festival. Excellent set up and fantastic staff. I could only spend a couple hours there in the afternoon, but wish it had been longer. The unplanned tour of the brewery and extra hospitality was a plus as well. So...while I can't rate the food, the staff and hospitality get two big thumbs up.

I visited the restaurant for the first time with 2 friends, mid week, for an evening meal. The carvery looked very dry at 7.30pm so we avoided this. I ordered a cod fillet wrapped in salami from the specials. The fish was raw in the middle, but the staff were friendly and helpful, when I returned it for some more microwaving! On a positive note the chips were the best I have had out for a very long time, and beautifully presented in a mini wire basket. Both my friends ordered steaks which were beautiful and the salad was well dressed and fresh, not bagged salad.

I opted for an apple and strawberry crumble. Unfortunately the crumble mixture lacked sugar and not a strawberry in sight. It did come with 2 generous blobs of ice cream. Coffee was also good. Everything seemed slightly over priced

My advice for the chef would be stream down the menu and stick to what you are best at- traditional pub grub as this is where the establishments strengths lie.

This is the first time I have visited this restaurant despite living in ashby for nearly 20 years but would like to give it a second chance.

some of starters were overcooked. In deep fried brie one portion was empty of cheese and no accompanying sauce as listed. Fish also overcooked- I suspect that they had fryer too hot.
Staff very helpful and pleasant.
Carvery good although priced a little too high at over £9 to compare with other nearby restaurants which are just as good.
