“Afternoon tea with Champagne”
Reviewed 31 January 2013

We had a colleague moving onto pastures new and wanted to give her a special treat so we took her to Kilworth House for afternoon tea.

15 of us 12 ladies and 3 men, we were extremely well looked after from the minute we arrived and greeted by a roaring log fire coats to the cloakroom and such attentive staff throughout.

The afternoon tea consisted of open sandwiches and they coped with pescatarians and vergetarians, which just kept coming, home made scones and an assortment of jams and double cream., washed down with Champagne. The table fair growned with it all plus the white starched linen tablecloths, just perfect.

Tea, coffee freshly made and replenished, tea with tea leaves I must add, the coffee was pure Arabica.

We were not in a hurry to leave but sadly we had to as we had homes to go to, but we will be back.

Thanks Kilworth House for making a good day a great day.

Stayed here and dined here on several occasions, we even got married here, on a regular stay, we have always had a great stay here, although we have only stayed in the luxury rooms, but friends have stayed in garden rooms and they are good too. Food is good and value for money, you can also have a light lunch in the drawing rooms which is nice if you are there for a weekend. We have a fantastic private wedding in December 2011, felt like one big family home, beautiful Christmas decorations and open fires added to the occasion. The staff were amazing, our whole family near books all the rooms on the wedding weekend and all we had were positive stories of he stay and many happy memories! We shall be back soon!

We have had the great pleasure of staying at Kilworth House on 3 occasions now and each time we remind ourselves what a beautiful well managed establishment it is. If its good old fashioned customer service you are looking for with exquisitely decorated rooms and exceptional food, then you will not be disappointed. There are a number of different reasons why Kilworth House stands out for us, but I think the main thing has to be the cleanliness and attention to detail of housekeeping. We have stayed in some of the counties finest hotels and indeed some top notch hotels in other countries, but I would say that Kilworth House is probably the cleanest we have ever come across. We have even seen one of the maids polishing the banister at midnight as you retire to your room. We have stayed in the "Garden rooms" which are superb and would be described as "Superior or luxury" rooms by most other hotels. The Luxury rooms at Kilworth really are LUXURY and if its a very special treat you are looking for then try the Tennyson Room - It's breathtaking and in our opinion is the best room in the hotel. Not cheap, but then it's not a run of the mill room! We have also had the pleasure of visiting the outdoor theatre which is another great Unique highlight at Kilworth.

As you have gathered, we cannot speak highly enough of Kilworth and we never get tired of returning!

Room Tip: Tennyson room if you can afford it, but ANY room is fabulous!

Paying £60 a head sadly doesn't mean that you will receive a quality meal with good service if you visit Kilworth at Christmas. Unfortunately, like most other establishments, they cram you in like sardines and treat you like cattle! Our table for 8 only had 7 place settings and seats, Rioja was served ice cold, turkey dinner was mediocre with tiny portions and coffee forgotten. Although the setting was beautiful and very nicely decorated, the service was abysmal.

We celebrated our wedding anniversary in the Wordsworth restaurant and, even though there was a special jazz night on in the Orangery restaurant next door, we had a fantastic, relaxing evening with highly attentive but unobtrusive staff.
Kilworth House Hotel is a fantastic venue for a special evening meal in a wonderfully elegant environment without being stuffy or pretentious.
On the evening we dined at Kilworth both the Orangery and the Wordsworth restaurant menus were being offered which enabled my husband and I to combine the fine-dining options with the more informal selections - which we did. The food was excellent and served attentively and promptly and the complimentary h'ordevres and the amuse bouches were delicious.
This was my second visit to Kilworth House and I look forward to returning again soon.

I booked this hotel for a one night stopover for my birthday and taking advantage of their twixmas dinner, bed & breakfast offer.

I have been here before for a birthday lunch for my 40th a few years ago and thought it looked like a good place for an overnight stay.

Being this time of year the hotel had some excellent Christmas decorations and including a large tree outside by the entrance as well as a very large one by the staircase. A warm welcome was provided by reception and they took our bags to our room followed by an introduction to the room and it's facilities.

We opted for one of the luxury rooms, the Milton, which had a very large en suite complete with roll top bath, shower and views out to the hotel grounds and countryside. Some nice touches included a small bottle of port in addition to the usual snacks and treats. The Milton was very convenient because it is very close to the main staircase.

They do a great afternoon tea which we had In one of the lounges near the Orangery.

Dinner was in the Orangery which, again, felt very festive with some tasteful decorations and mood lighting. The food was excellent and service too.

The large double bed afforded us a good sleep (very comfortable with the mattress toppers that are popular these days) and the room was quite.

The morning had a few hiccups with our newspaper not arriving (they were very apologetic and said that they had forgotten to order it) and no toast at breakfast (other tables had it and it looks like we were just forgotten). The actual breakfast was very good. With it being over the Christmas they may have had some staffing issues but this is not what you lay for. I've therefore lowered the rating slightly for service because of this.

One point for the hotel management - having a spa would really help keep you ahead of the competition.

Glitches aside this did not affect our overall experience and I would recommend a stay at this luxury hotel in the heart of rural Leicestershire.

Disappointing !!!!
Having paid £150 per person back in October ( Non refundable) we were really looking forward to a lovely New Years Celebration. Whilst no one can dispute the setting and appearence of KH, the decorations were stunning. The rest was lacking.
On arrival there was no one to greet you, we had to wait for our champagne and the canapes were served by young girls who stood in the corner of the room and you had to go to her to help yourself.
The dinner ( 6Courses) was ok if not a little random at times. Smoked salmon with mango & Earl Grey sorbet?!!
The singer/DJ was excellent. He sang and played music all night and suited all tastes.
When midnight came there were no fireworks or piper in fact nothing happened except we all sang 'Auld langs syne'. Both have been included at other places for considerably less money.
The dancing was spoilt by a few couples who felt the need to do exhibition dances for everyone else. There were a couple of tables with 'younger' couples who were really enjoying themselves they did no harm and in fact added to the festivities, without them the evening might have been a little boring.
We did have a nice night but do I feel we got value for money? NO
We would go back if convenient but it wouldn't be our first choice.
