“Fantastic as usual, amazing cream tea for 50th birthday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 August 2014

My daughter took me to Kilworth for a cream tea for my 50th birthday. We sat in the Orangery which is a large conservatory overlooking the grounds of the house and is truly spectacular.

The service was excellent and the cream tea every bit as good. It really was a special treat and worthy of a special birthday.

My husband and I were booked in to another hotel to celebrate our 10th Wedding Anniversary last weekend, and after being let down at 5pm on the day of check-in, the fabulous Kilworth House stepped in to save the day.
From the moment Oliver on Reception answered our phone call, the service and standard of care were second to none. Oliver helped us to find exactly what we wanted at the best price he could, he made arrangements for our evening meal reservation in the stunning Orangery Restaurant and welcomed us on arrival for check in.
We have stayed at Kilworth a number of times before and have never been disappointed. The rooms are great - particularly the luxury and four poster rooms which are all unique and special in their own ways. We are hoping to work our way through all of them and very much enjoyed this stay in the Kipling Room.
The welcome coffee and biscuits which Oliver had sent up to our room for us, meant that our last minute dash down the motorway and the stress of the other hotel were soon forgotten and we could at last enjoy our stay.
The evening meal and breakfast in the Orangery were both very good indeed and the staff were, without exception all excellent. Thank you Kilworth - a wonderful stay yet again

We spent a family afternoon out having afternoon tea as a birthday treat here today.
It is a wonderful location and quite pleasant inside. We specifically chose this date as we wanted to eat in the orangerie.
A beautiful sunny day meant it was warm inside all except those that sat by the windows where A/C vents meant a cold blast of sit was fed onto them.
Our order was taken by what appeared to be the Manager by the way he was dressed, a little unkempt but in a suit all the same.
We had one member of the party who required gluten and dairy free. It was nice that this was accommodated however it would have been better had he been able to explain what was available, we ordered a savoury tea and he rushed back out to say it may be best for a sweet version.... Bizarre as he couldn't really explain why.
Tea was served and we ordered wine as well. The sandwiches arrived, not a very generous portion but reasonably tasty. The gluten free turned out to be gluten free bread with toppings of chicken etc and very bland.
The service by this time was notably stand offish and everything we needed we kept having to ask for. At no time did anyone ask if we wanted anything or if the food was okay until the very end of the meal. All in all the service was not very friendly except for a tall blonde chap who went out of his way to explain the cake platter contents. He needn't have bothered as the majority really were not special and disappointingly not very tasty or memorable.
As for the service again - three
times we required extra tea but catching someone's eye to serve was a fine art and it was as if we weren't there at times.
When it appeared we had finished our food the plates were very quickly removed and it felt like we had reached the end if our allotted time.
A couple of years ago we spent a wonderful day as guests at a wedding where the food and service were impeccable.
This is the second time we have returned since and on both occasions we have been unimpressed by the service and food.
In conclusion it must be a 'wedding place' as if seems to excel in that area only.

Visited the Orangery earlier this month and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food; The surroundings are beautiful, the drive, the gardens, the entrance, the building, the glass house Orangery but the food was fantastic.Michelin star standard with flavour and presentation, No course disppointed on our table of four persons and we all chose differently from the A La carte evening menu. Too good to rush we enjoyed every mouthful complimented by a house recommended wine (very reasonably priced) but the wine list is extensive! Despite a flat prosecco being served for the pre dinner drinks (which was soon rectified) we would definately recommend the Orangery not just for a special occasion but as a very good week dinner venue at a very fair price for the quality of the food.

wow! This was the reaction of all our guests & Videographer, that attended the wedding of our daughter on, 16/8/14. It was stunning. In particular we wish to thank our wedding coordinator, EMILY, she carried out all the ideas to the letter, just as the bride wished. The food for both the day & evening was beautiful, even the fussy eaters were pleased! Danny & staff in the restaurant made sure everything ran smoothly throughout the service. The rooms allocated to us in the evening were beautifully laid out too. Absolute perfectection from the location to the views from the terrace to the grand house with its opulent interior decor. Everyone had such a wonderful time and will be talking about it for some time. Thank-you to all, for making our daughters special day, a day to remember by all and the best day of her life.

Room Tip: Bride & Groom stayed in the 'Tennison' room. Stairs up to the bathroom, with a roll top...

We stayed, unfortunately, for only one night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The hotel is a fantastic building with stunning décor and very attentive, but not overly, staff. The room was large and overlooked the garden courtyard. Excellent in room facilities apart from one problem for us "oldies". The bath was very deep, ideal for a good soak, but not very easy to get in and out of. We had dinner in the Orangery and thoroughly enjoyed an excellent meal. Then had to struggle to manage breakfast !! Although we only travelled 30 minutes to get to the hotel it seemed a world away and we'll definitely return.

We stayed in the Tennyson room, and it was beyond all my expectations.
We had a pre dinner drink in the lounge and were given the menu and wine list to choose what we wanted.
Our dinner in the orangery was superb, the waiting staff very attentive and efficient, they couldn't do enough for us.
It was hard to decide what to have for breakfast as there was too much to choose from... Served by the lovely Gwen.
After breakfast we took a walk through the beautiful grounds and round the lake.
When we checked out we found reception staff polite and helpful.
Thankyou all for our lovely stay.
