The Dovedale Hotel and Restaurant
Ranked #6 of 7 Hotels in Cleethorpes
Reviewed 4 February 2013

Arrived at the dovedale friday evening. We booked the hotel two days prior through dogs friendly.com and found out we could have two nights their for £128.We decided to ring the hotel direct and was told it was £125 per night. On ringing them back they agreed to do it for £128 for the two nights like it said on the dog friendly website. They gave us room 29,which was dog friendly and easy access to take the dogs out,car park was also next to the room,Upon arriving at the hotel, their was no parking spaces available, when my partner asked the manager on line,he suggested to my partner that he should park his car up the road.We had travelled 4 hours to stay at the dovedale as we were buying a house near their and my partner having living in cleethorpes 25 yrs ago and having family in the area, refused to park his car on the road,ie a lexus, not an old banger which is nearly new and was told by a passer by not to leave the car on the road, when he spoke to the manager about it,he didnt seem interested and said he would have to wait 45 minutes till someone come out the restaurant to get a parking space. This happened 11/2 hrs later. My partner saw the people leaving then went out to get the parking space, the manager did ring through to say they were leaving.By this time we decided to go for fish n chips from market square chip shop but due to the delay they had closed so we had to settle for a kebab, yuck,The breakfast was horrendous,in fact the dogs wudnt even eat the sausages we brought back for them. When confronted they said the sausages were supplied from a local butcher, long live tescos. The bacon still had white on it which was water, from the same butcher. The toast we know the white is sunblest, havnt heard that name for a long time.My partner saw the bread dumped on the step at 9-30 am thats why we know. The brown toast was granery which is very unusual, but looking on their menu they do granary bread sandwiches and in our opinion, this was perhaps stale bread but adequate for toasting. The butter, was soft when we got it and was obviously kept in room temperature, two of these pats were off.It took 5 minutes from order to getting the breakfast so its obviously pre heated. On saturday and sumday morning, all that was left on everybodys plate was the sausages, nobody would eat them.Room 29,the room stank of cigarette smoke, and outside the door had a plant pot with sand in full of cigarette butts. If you go onto previous trip advisors, room 28 had the same problem.Upon confronting the management about the smell of smoke in the room and the stink it made of our clothes,he told us the hotel had been non smoking since 2011/12.Upon departure on the sunday,my partner made his feelings clear to the young lady at reception, she wasnt bothered even about the previous trip advisor reports complaining pretty much about the same, she advised my partner that they always replied to the remarks on trip advisor and took it seriously,i suggest fellow trip advisors check before booking if they have replied to any of the reports that have been made. She also advised that rooms 28 and 29 were smoking rooms,if we had known this we would not have booked this hotel. The good side to this hotel was the wetroom in the room we were in,which was superb but the downside is wen u step onto the wooden floor, you fall on your face if your feet arnt dried properly. The best way was to put a towel on floor so you dont end up breaking your neck. All the hotel needs is management that do listen to these trip advisors and take the comments on board.Sorry this is a long trip advisor but whats the point if people dont put the truth down, hopefully the management will take it all on board, not only our point but others.By the way,we never found anybody under the influence their as £3-80 for a pint of kronenberg is a bit steep. Also add, even the clothes in our case which hadnt been worn still stank of cigarette smoke, all these clean clothes had to be washed over again.

Room Tip: avoid rooms 28 and 29 if you are non smokers

My husband and I stayed here on Sunday evening just for the one night, We are really impressed with everything about the hotel. It is spotless throughout, the room was lovely, very tastefully decorated and the bed was amazing!! We had a jacuzzi bath which was a lovely surprise. All the staff were very helpful and so polite. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and the meal was 1st class and so was the service. I can say that this is the best seaside hotel I have ever stayed at. Well done to all the staff and Management....... we will definitely be back soon. Thankyou

We stayed for one night on 12 January 2013. We arrived early planning just to leave our case, but our room was already ready so we checked in. The reception area was spotless and the receptionist was friendly and helpful. We were in room 105 on the first floor. The room was very nice. The shower didn't have a massive water pressure, but it was perfectly adequate.

We didn't have an evening meal so can't comment on the restaurant, but the breakfast was everything you would want from a seaside hotel/B&B and filled us up till teatime.

All the staff we came across were friendly and helpful

We have no complaints whatsoever and would happily use this hotel again

A great hotel, with a very friendly and efficient staff. The restaurant was excellant, serving quality food at reasonable prices. We booked for three nights begining of December, and the christmas menu was already on offer.Amention must be made of the brilliant christmas decorations, they made the hotel look like a christmas wonderland. The bedrooms were probably a little on the small side but nevertheless very clean and comfortable.Admired the super optimism of the lady who took her donkeys out onto Cleethorpes beach on a cold December day looking for children to ride them

this hotel is very nice compared to the outdated B & B's in the area. my room had a 4 posted bed with a jacuuzi in the bathroom.
i had excellent service the bar serves cocktails which is always a plus :) in the morning you get a lovely breakfast included in room price.
it is very close to the seafront with good access to nearby chinese restaurant Asian Kitchen.
Room prices were very reasonable as Kingsway hotel over charges for old outdated rooms.

Definitely recommend im sure the couple below are were just unlucky as ive stayed here many times and had no such problem. i will definitely be back here

Room Tip: Balcony room and Jacuzzi rooms :)

this was our wedding and my birthday. We stayed the night before the wedding and the wedding night. the room was nice but not luxurious. The jacuzzi was a nice touch. We returned at about 10 pm after the wedding to find our room hadn't been serviced. That was sooo upsetting for my wife. We went downstairs to find someone to complain to, after 10 mins we caught the attention of one of the workers, who didn't think it was such a problem. no apology no anything. we waited downstairs for a bout 30 mins until the room was prepared. I thought they might had presented us with a bottle of wine or something as a token gesture. NOT one word of apology.Disgraceful AND I WOULD URGE ANYONE NOT TO STAY THERE.
