“Overall a super place”
Reviewed 7 October 2013 via mobile

Excellent receptionist but lacking in a bit of glamour! The food was excellent , presentation good and full of courteous staff who were alert to our needs! Shame the economical environment has kept clients away. The place appeared desolate but then we are trying to get into for a Christmas and the place is full but I will keep on trying.

I visited Cleethorpes for a funeral and the Kingsway was recommended by a local. Excellent choice! I only stayed the one night and the staff made me feel like I was a regular! Very friendly. The room, 122, was lovely. Very clean, extremely comfy bed. Breakfast was great, nice chatty waitress. I couldn't have asked for more. I would definitely stay again.

We came to the Kingsway Hotel on our wedding night (one night was all we could afford), because at the time it had a reputation for being one of the best hotels in the area. So 45 years on we thought we'd try it again. We weren't disappointed. The quality of service and friendliness of the staff was still of the highest standard. The room (127) was massive, well equipped (including free wi-fi) and had magnificent views over the beach. The evening meal, which was served in the wood-panelled dining room, was also of good quality, as was the generous breakfast. Only down-side was that the main road traffic was noisy early on Sunday morning - hardly the hotel's fault.

We had never been to Cleethorpes or Grimsby. Circumstances demanded that we go there to look at a car for our son. A friend said it was a real dump, but having to travel 120 miles we took our overnight bags just in case. Driving along the front we noticed the Kingsway Hotel. It looked a nice situation overlooking the sea. They had a double room with bay window overlooking the beach, which we decided to take. First impressions were of a somewhat old-fashioned hotel with lots of brown panelling. but this was misleading. No threadbare carpets here, pleasant lounges and fascinating public rooms. A lovely dining room with superb sea views. The room was most acceptable, including a separate bath and shower cubicle. Only criticism was no soap dish in the shower, and a loose door. The bed was comfortable and there were two good chairs to use for admiring the view, but we could have done with a coffee table. I think the table had been taken to mount the modern flat screen television!. Surprisingly the carpet was fixed with carpet tacks rather than gripper rods, but overall very the room was bright and acceptable and reasonable value.

The restaurant was not cheap, but the food quality, choice and presentation was excellent. In particular the vegetables served with dinner deserve mention, they were imaginative and beautifully cooked. Breakfast was fine. The restaurant staff were absolutely fantastic, smoothly efficient and very friendly. Reception staff were similarly friendly and efficient. The hotel has been owned by the same family for over 60 years. The owners actively run the hotel. Their caring attitude shows through in the service. A bonus is a superb garage and parking provision. Overall a very pleasant stay, almost five blobs.

What about the "dump". Well driving into Grimsby and passing the sadly derelict docks area was not inspiring. However enter the promenade and it was different world. The promenade road had lots of immaculate flower beds, lots of seating and pedestrian facilities. We saw no graffiti. The beautiful sandy beach was kept very clean. We took the splendid miniature train along the coast and were surprised at the selection of facilities available, all apparently well tended. We noticed that these facilities such as the railway were not well publicised. In summary the Cleethorpes end of the Grimsby/Cleethorpes conurbation was a really quite attractive pleasant surprise. Stay at the Kingsway and try it.

Second time in the Kingsway Hotel on a business trip. Each time the weather has been atrocious so the warmth of the folks in the hotel (in fact all of the people in Cleethorpes / Grimsby are really good folks) made the stay very nice. The hotel is beautifully located on the seafront with some fantastic restaurants within walking distance (Try the Captains table, seafood, superb). The hotel is a spotlessly clean hotel, bit creaky in places, which add's to the beautiful charm. The staff make it that bit special.

A real Gem on the seafront. It is not cheap, but you get what you pay for. We had a seaview room with a big bathroom, large batch and a lovely comfy bed. The breakfast in the morning was superb and lots of variety. Will definately go again

Just had 2 nights here over August bank holiday weekend and stayed in a lovely room (123) overlooking a roof top garden. All the staff, but particularly the waitressess serving breakfast, were efficient and friendly. It is in a great location. with the lounges and dining room having lovely views out to sea.The bar is well stocked with various drinks and at a reasonable price for a hotel. Would definately go back again
