Owner description: Experience the height of the fishing industry of Great Grimsby! A job often described as the 'most dangerous peacetime occupation in the UK', these men literally risked their lives in order to bring home fish to a port described as 'the world's premiere fishing port'. Come and see their story!

Fun and quite educational museum type centre looking at the town's fishing heritage. There are a number of attractions within the centre which the children will enjoy. Well worth a visit, if only once. Probably the only real attraction in the town (disregarding the shopping centre)!

We found the signage to this little history museum a little confusing. Eventually we located it by sheer persistence, at the dock to the rear of a shopping mall. We got there rather too late in our stay in Grimsby to spend enough time here. But the choice of location, right on the dock where a genuine fishing trawler is moored, is most appropriate. Across the river is the historic Victoria Dock. Inside the building, the audio tour is well done and the various displays realistic and informative; there is a huge room containing a fully rigged boat. Lots of different kinds of mementos are for sale. Staff were most helpful... Check out the opening times before you visit, or you may be disappointed.

This museum has much to offer people of all ages. As I was part of a large group I was treated to a guided tour of the Tiger Trawler which used to go out fishing in all weather conditions some of which were VERY dangerous. The tour took us round the trawler and made us realize what cramped conditions the men worked and lived in. The museum is VERY well planned and gives you a real taste of what it must have been like to work on the trawler boats. The simulated rocking of the boat was a bit too realistic for me and the wind with its icy blast was extremely convincing. All the displays are very realistic and atmospheric. The history of fishing in Grimsby is well set out on the upper floor and there are some excellent photographs and paintings to look at. There is a café and small shop.

This is well worth a look its a fascinating insight in the life of a trawlerman.
We had an ex trawlerman showing us round who explained how dangerous life at sea was and how cold it could be.He demonstrated how they pulled the nets up and how difficult it actually was. Very realistic sounds and effects especially on the bridge lots to see and explore and the trawler to visit too.

I have been to the centre many times, both with my family and on a school visit with my class.
It really shows what it was like to be a fisherman working on the trawlers.
The displays are very realistic and the sound effects can be a bit frightening at first for young children, but they seem to take it in their stride.
As well as lookin round the museum you can go on board the Ross Tiger, a trawler that is moored outside the centre. You are given a tour of the boat by one of the ex fishermen who tells you about life on board.
This is a great place to visit. There is a cafe and shop and toilet facilities.
