“Thoroughly enjoyable - would definitely visit again”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

My friend and i had lunch on Saturday, 28th June and found the menu quite varied. We selected the bread board, haddock, eton mess - which could not be faulted - especially the dessert. The waiter was very attentive with a ready smile. Our thanks to the Chef and the young gent who served two ladies [by the window].

Kind regards
C Tank

“Average food but poor service.”
Reviewed 8 June 2014

We recently visited this restaurant with a family group of twenty to celebrate a Diamond wedding, and had changed the meal time to accommodate the hotel due to there also being a large wedding party taking place in another area of the premises.
The bar service was extremely slow, with patrons having to ring a bell to attract the attention of the clearly overworked bar staff, (who were very polite and pleasant, it has to be said).
The meal itself was ok but nothing special, and left one thinking it had been held on a hot plate under lights (we had all pre ordered to assist the hotel).
Once they were in a position to have to prepare something to order (desserts) the wait was lengthy to say the least.
This was our third visit to this premises over a period of probably ten years, and to be honest I would not have chosen the venue having been less than impressed previously, but it was booked by other family members.
I would not wish the staff that were working to feel disappointed by this review, as I feel they did their best but were let down by the management failing to ensure sufficient staffing to be able to cope with the demands of a busy afternoon/evening.

“Not a vegetarians paradise”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

Ordered the tapas which is essentially a veg omelette which was underseasoned but freshly cooked....patatas bravas really needed a sauce as the dish was dry and the salad...in a orange juice glass was essentially almonds mixed with watercress and orange....dressing too thin to coat and not a great combination. My dinner companion had the beef which was apparently well cooked. Deserts were ok but my rhubarb and custard crumble was not good...no real rhubarb flavour and was not sweet!.....i think i may have chosen badly but was pretty disappointing for top end local prices. That said its a nice venue in a peaceful location and the staff were nice and friendly. Seems to be a business mans choice and would love to see a more flavoursome menu which would encourage me to return. They have lots of local competition which is only going to increase as more hotels are coming to the area....would hate to see a lovely place like this not do well for the sake of a better, more well flavoured local menu.

“Perfect in every way!”
Reviewed 24 May 2014

We rang to book a table at 20:00, I rang at 18:00 booked no problems.
It was very busy, do had a drink in the bar.
Orders taken swiftly.
I'm so indecisive, all staff very relaxed, and friendly.

I had pate starter, amazing, my sister bread board (she can't find anything she loves as much), brother in law had crab balls, husband goats cheese.
All came out perfect.
Ordered drinks at the table too.

Main I always have steak. Decided to push the boat out, went for salmon and no
Bay potatoes they were perfect, hubby had pork, sister risotto, and brother in steak, all cooked to perfection.

The only downside to the night is, only being able to fit one pudding in after all that good food ha ha!
I went dark chocolate salted caramel torte!!
Well that with a coffee and cream... I died and went to heaven!

Staff very polite, food perfect, service great!!! All in all a hidden gem for this area, please don't under estimate it

Thanks x
