“Lovely Hotel”
Reviewed 19 July 2014 via mobile

Hotel has comfy beds. Found the staff to be extremely attentive and helpful. We ate in the restaurant's outdoor courtyard as we had our dog with us. The food was great, would recommend the Wild Boar burger, beef vindaloo and chocolate brownie with hazelnut ice cream. Overall affordable and very pet friendly. Would definitely return just for the food alone!

Dear Aiden P,

Thank you for your kind comments regarding your stay with us. The staff always pride themselves in providing an extremely high standard of customer service to all our guests. Our chefs continuously strive to provide both an excellent variety and high standard in the food they serve, and the “exotic” burgers have proved to be extremely popular as is our locally sourced ice-cream from Dennets of Lincoln. All of the staff look forward to your return.

Many Thanks

Just spent the one night here on a room only basis, so can't comment on the food, although we did have a drink in the bar. There is a pleasant open courtyard with comfy seating and no smoking. There were plenty of picnic benches out the back as well.
The room was very comfy although we had to have the window open as it was a warm evening, which meant that the traffic was disturbing. The furniture in the room was very grand. There was alarge bath wuth plenty of hot water.

Dear Ruby37,

We’re glad you enjoyed your stay with us and found your room comfortable. We have recently upgraded several of our rooms to Superior rooms and have received many positive comments on their comfort and style. Our courtyard area is always popular with our guests, especially in the summer months. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Yours Sincerely

We went here for lunch today with some friends as it was my birthday. My husband had booked a table but did not say it was for my birthday. When we arrived we discovered there was a birthday deal but when inquiring about this I was told it was only available if booked in advance. I asked how we would know about this I was told if I was a regular I would know about it. About 2 or 3 times a year I book a group of us here for a meal but don't think I shall be in a hurry to do so again. The food was mediocre and lukewarm. Waitress was pleasant but whole experience disappointing.

Dear kathrynswaby,

We are sorry that you found your dining experience with us uninspiring; we assure you that this is not usually the case for our diners or guests. The birthday offer that we have run over the past 12 months is, unfortunately, only available if pre-booked; we have run several advertisements in the local press, including one two page spread just last month. Additionally, we also advertise this offer online through social media and our website and outside the hotel on large A boards. We do apologise if you found our food mediocre, the chefs do take great pride in the fine dishes they produce. Your comments will be taken on board in order to ensure all our customers are satisfied. We would invite you back to sample some of our new menus which have recently been introduced which emphasise the great pride and care the chefs take in their work.

Yours Sincerely

me and my husband come here regularly for an afternoon drink, it has a lovely courtyard or garden at the rear which are both lovely to sit in on a sunny afternoon.... the décor in the hotel is very tasteful and homely, with a touch of opulence...it is the only place we visit for drinks in Horncastle as as well as the nice surroundings the staff are very welcoming and the prices are quite low .... I take my daughter and mum here for a meal occasionally as the food is of an excellent quality, with a very extensive menu, It is quite expensive for food though, with some of the sandwiches being around £7.00... but overall a lovely relaxed place to visit, I will definitely be going back

Room Tip: a room at the back overlooking the garden would be recommended

Dear chickle43,

We are very glad you and your family enjoyed our hotel’s charm and relaxing atmosphere. All the staff here pride themselves on excellent customer service combined with fantastic food and drink. Our grassed area and courtyard are certainly proving popular this summer and we’re happy that you have enjoyed it also. We look forward to your next visit.

Great welcome from the more senior of the staff but some of the waiting staff are a bit too formal for my tastes which can detract from the generally relaxing hotel.

My room was large and well equipped and comfortable with the expected good quality bed linen & towels.

Only slight negative for me personally was the food. Breakfast was good but the evening meal was not as good as I have had in other best westerns & top food pubs and more expensive.

Lack of any garden areas may not suit some people who stay for more than one night

I would however recommend this to all and would stay here when next around horn castle.

On going down to our local hotel The Admiral Rodney for a 50th birthday party. The beer from the bar upstairs in the function room was totalay undrinkable. The majority of the guests had to keep going down stairs all night to the main bar to fetch drinks that were drinkable. Has a real ale drinker myself i would recommened the purchase of some line cleaner would be of an advantage.

Dear simon t,

We are sorry to hear of your less than satisfactory experience with the beer from the function bar on this particular occasion, we hope this will not dissuade you from enjoying our establishment in future. I can assure you that all our beer lines are thoroughly maintained and are cleaned on a weekly basis by staff with extensive cellar management training and experience. We always aim to be approachable to all of our customers for any reason and had the issue been raised at the time we would have endeavoured to rectify the situation immediately. Additionally, we do not serve real ale upstairs in the function bar the only bitter we do serve upstairs is a draught `cream flow` bitter. We do have a fantastic choice of real ale available in the Rodney Bar, which I would invite you to sample to see the usual great quality of our ale. Again we always welcome feedback from our customers and we do hope to see you again soon.

Yours Sincerely
