Our one night stay in Room 3 The Royal Hotel Doncaster Road Scunthorpe was to say the least a TOTAL HORROR STORY. Room 3 is directly over the kitchens and room 3 vibrates with the constant noise and running of the kitchen's extractor fans. They were finally turned off at 22.20 pm and started up again at 07:20 am the next morning. Room 3 stinks of cooking fumes, leaving the front door open didn't help as the little corridor outside also smelled the same. This is not some slight odour, it is a very strong and quite nauseating smell of stale fried food.
Other problems with our stay:
There was no effective heating in the bedroom, the additional electric wall heater was completely dead and the C/H radiator was only lukewarm - the room was no warmer than about 10 deg C
There was no heating at all in the bathroom and because the window was broken and jammed slightly open - it was freezing cold and draughty
The toilet seat was very loose and dangerous as it moves from side to side by at least 3 inches
There was only one bath towel - when we asked for another one, we were told they had a problem with their laundry company and that the hotel had no spares
The floor of the bedroom was filthy and covered in small pieces of crisps and peanuts - the room was certainly not hoovered before we moved in
The bed linen was clean but the bed itself smelled of stale food (probably from the kitchens below)
We expected to have breakfast at the hotel, but when we were awoken at 07:20am by the noise and smell from the extractor fans starting up - we got up, dressed (without the ordeal of a freezing cold bathroom), checked out and went home - thoroughly upset.
We have family living near this hotel and having driven over 300 miles to visit them for the funeral of an Uncle, we were so disappointed to have had such a terrible experience of what was absolutely the worst hotel room we have ever stayed at in our lives.

Room Tip: Stay well away from Room 3ll

I had the displeasure of eating at the Royal last night. Was brought 2 wrong meals then faced with a rude arrogant approach by untrained un professional member of staff that argued to the point where I was on the brink of walking out. Meals replaced with x2 cold tasteless meals. Not at any point were we asked if the meal was ok especially when I payed. It cost me £33 which I would truely have sooner set fire to than be subject to that dire experience. In my 51 years the worst ever ! In a nutshell utter rubbish

We stayed at The Royal Hotel for one night to go to The Baths Theatre, which is just across the road from The Royal Hotel. The room was nice and a comfy bed with Tea & Coffee making facilities in the room.
I disagree with the negative comments that people have left and just want to say that these people what do you expect for the price you pay for a room??? If you want 5* then pay 5* prices then you might be happy, and don't expect 5* for the bargain you get at The Royal.

We also ate at The Royal which for a pub chain was very nice and reasonable, the breakfast(which you have to pay extra) was a bit steep at £7.50 but you did get a massive plate full of Full English and as much continental breakfast that you can eat sos all in all it was pretty reasonable.

We enjoyed our stay here and will definatley go and stay there again.

I booked for one night at this hotel in spite of some of the previous reviews from earlier in the year.
I was pleasantly surprised on my arrival.
The staff were warm, friendly and helpful and it appeared that there had been a lot of work carried out both in the corridors and the room.
Our room was spotlessly clean and spacious, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was large.
This is a very old hotel and it has been decorated in a style appropriate to that period.
We had an evening meal there but not breakfast.
