Owner description: One of only two working 8 sailed windmills in the world, we are now regularly milling again with grain sourced exclusively from within 5 miles of the mill itself. Ample on-site parking and toilets, guided tours available, and audio tours will soon also be available for those who visit when there are no millers on duty. There is a mouse hunt for the children, and all five floors are open to be explored. As we are going through a transition phase after our successful lottery fund application, the other buildings around the site are currently undergoing some development. Visitors who have been before please bear in mind that the professional caterers who used to run the tearooms as a separate business have now left, but to ensure visitors can still enjoy refreshment facilities our volunteers are working hard to provide basic hot & cold drinks, snacks, sandwiches etc. Opening hours: 7 days a week from 12 to 5 during school summer holidays Saturdays and Sundays from 12 to 5 the rest of the year except half term weeks, when we are also open Thursday and Friday, 12 to 5. Admission: Adults £3 Children 5-16 £1.50 Under 5's free Guided tour inclusive, subject to volunteer availability. Please check website for up-to-date news, events, and notices.

The mill is missing its sails( due to be fitted very soon) but it is still worth the £2 fee to climb to the top. Walk the gallery, the view is terrific, really appreciated the binoculars available for peering into the distance. Flour is available at the shop at a great price. I bought 'special' brown flour and a bag of bran. But the real gem is the tea shop. With an extensive menu and super 'specials' board it would be impossible not to find something to eat. From goulash to cake, via spicy carrot soup, Brie and apple sandwich the range of food on offer is imaginative and well made. Next time we come to Lincoln we will try to stay nearer so that we can visit more often.

The windmill is unique and in a lovely village very intersting to visit great views. Theres a brewery on site and model train place close by though that bit is rarely open. The tea rooms are Austrian and have a great range from cake tea etc to main meals with lots of Austrian treats. Service is so obliging be it the owners or the young staff. Very reasonable too and home made .

Nice to look at from a distance - has character and history but a bit messy around the site - not many other attractions in Heckington to visit though.
