“A hidden gem of Wensleydale!”
Reviewed 22 September 2013

Just returned from a Monday - Friday break at the Westholme Estate, and we absolutely loved it!

We stayed in Maple Lodge #22, which was very clean; comfortable, and had a fantastic hot tub at the rear of the decking surrounding the lodge - great to relax in after a day's walking in the Dales!

The Estate is well looked after, and the staff were really friendly and accommodating. However, there were a few minor things that could easily be sorted out to make your stay even better:

The booking-in regime was farsical - no keys issued until 4:00 pm, resulting in long queues at Reception - could be alleviated by staggering the booking-in times for the various levels/types of Lodges.

Although the Estate is dog friendly, don't take yours if you want to eat at the on site restaurant or drink in the bar, as dogs aren't allowed in, and you can't leave them alone in your Lodge. Therefore, people with dogs have to go off site if they want to eat in a restaurant or have a drink in a bar/pub, which is a little inconvenient, and poor business practice from the Estate management, losing them revenue. We just took our own food and drink, and made our Lodge a home from home!

The hot tub, whilst a brilliant and much appreciated feature of our Lodge, had no canopy to protect the users from any rain. Admittedly, we didn't let it stop us using it, but it could undoubtedly deter some!

Overall, this was a really enjoyable break in a great location for Dales walking - plenty of walks right on the doorstep.

We shall be returning at some point in the future!

The Dales are great for a break and the Westholme lodges are in a perfect place. The Maple lodge we had was perfect for a couple and well comfortable. My wife was annoyed because you could not get a signal for her mobile, and this was the only downside to our entire holiday.

My husband and I have just returned from a weeks holiday at Westholme Lodges and really enjoyed it. We stayed in one of the cedar lodges along with our dog. The lodges themselves have everything that you need, we did a 'big shop' before we set off so we had plenty of food for the week as the nearest supermarket is about a 20-30 minute drive away. We had a couple of great days out at Richmond, Aysgarth falls, castle Bolton and Leyburn. The only downside is that if you are a phone addict like me, we couldn't get signal in our lodge however when we walked back up to reception you could get it there. Overall a great relaxing week and I would defiantly recommend this to anyone.

Welcome on friday night was warm and helpful, the supplies in the kitchen were fantastic and the lodge was clean and well equipped.

The oven took a few minutes to understand but that is only a minor quibble.

We stayed in a cedar lodge and it was very quiet despite only being semi detached.

Would be a bit dull for kids - small playground and not much else but perfect for adults.

We got a deal via the hoseasons page - friday to monday - £229. It was worth that without a doubt. Worth more? Possibly not but we were mostly using it as a base for exploring.

Me and my husband has just came back from here. We took our dog and he loved every minute of it. We stayed in The Maple VIP Lodge with Hot Tub. When we arrived the staff were very friendly and as we got to our lodge we were right on the corner of the road side and only had lodge next to us and the field in front. There was welcome pack which had little bottle of washing up liquid, bin bags, tea towel and cleaning cloth, and a dishwasher tablet. There was pint of milk and loaf of uncut fresh bread left for us. This was a really good idea as we travel to lot of lodges around Yorkshire and this is the only one that we have been to that has left this for us. We had plenty of tea/coffee, sugar and packet of biscuits in the dish. Hot tub was really hot even on the day we got there and once i got out i could not wait to get back in there. We had lovely balcony with a gate so i did not have to worry about my dog getting out. Lodge was very clean and tidy and i could not fault any of it. We had slippers left for us which is really nice thing to do and we had 2 big bath towels and to hand towels in each bedroom. We had 2 bedrooms even though there was only 2 of us and this was best thing i could of gone for as there was lots of space. Loved the bathroom/ en-suite,there was 2 doors to the bathroom 1 from your room and 1 from the lobby so you could go to the bathroom from your room during the night. We visited Henderson's pub on site and sat outside and the staff in there was rally pleasant to. Not bad priced either as for pint of larger was £3.10 and large glass of wine was £4.75 which i don't mind paying the price for the wine. Plenty of staff around the park and they are always kept busy. Every day they come and check your hot tub and put the cleaning crystals in it. We went for our wedding anniversary and will be back again next year. Aslo hoping to get back in January. People around the park were all friendly and the park itself was so nice to walk around and was kept clean at all times. Very peaceful and quite just what we like. Countryside and little villages are nice to and fox and hounds pub jut few minutes drive down the road to West Burton going to Aysgarth

Would recommend to anyone and pay little bit more for hot tub and if there are 2 of you get a2 bedroomed lodge as this has more space if you like more room. After reading other comments about the hot tub not being private the only ones that are not private are the ceder ones as these are 2 lodges together. You have fence around your hot tub so people cant see you. Only time you can be seen is next lodge can see you coming out of the door but wants you in hot tub they cant see you.

Room Tip: Pay little bit more and get a hot tub as this is the highlight to your holiday.

The park is in a picturesque part of North Yorkshire, only a short walk from Aysgarth falls. we were there a wk so visited many attractions inluding Forbidden Corner, Scar Caves and Middleham Castle. We only ate in the restaurant once but it was very nice and decently priced. the cabin was smaller than one previously visited but still a nice size and adquately furnished, unlike other reviews i found the beds ok. unfortunately the hottubs were not very private which wasnt an issue for my use however lets just say i did hear my neighbours "enjoying" their hottub at about 1am as it was situated about 3m from my bedroom window. The Manager was friendly perhaps overly friendly - always outside bar with pint & fag, however not very professional i did overhear him talking about customers issues & complaints to other customers. Overall though I would stay for the peace and seclusion.
