“Good place to eat”
Reviewed 16 October 2013

After a few recommendations to eat here we went on our first night away. We found the staff welcoming although I would have to describe the atmosphere as a little 'chaotic'. There was a lot going on, too many people crowded round the tiny bar, I was stood in the doorway for about 5 minutes trying to get in. However, you could take that as a good thing... a full pub must be a good sign, right? Yep!
When we finally got sat down our food arrived in good time. It was good quality, tasty food and worth the wait. We had the fish and chips and we loved the presentation. Desert was to die for.
Will go back when we're in the area again.

We arrived on Saturday for a one night stay and we stayed in rooms 3 and 4 which we found very spacious and very clean and our room, no 4 had a spacious bathroom with a jacuzzi and a separate shower.
The bar area with its roaring log fire was a welcoming sight and the bar and restaurant was spotlessly clean.
The restaurant is open from 17.30 to 20.30 and the place is very busy and the food is of the highest quality and reasonably priced.
Overall we had a great stay and we will definitely be calling again in the future.

Booked two night KGB deal in September 2013. Being a coeliac sufferer was surprised at how well hotel catered for my diet, even to having gluten free bread! Very pleasant management and staff. Hotel comfortable and ideally located for touring the Dales. Will stay again.

Room Tip: Stayed in Room 1 which was on the small side but adequate. Had good clean bathroom

When we go away for a break, we want something special and thought we had found the perfect place. We have stayed here a number of times before and always had a fantastic time. I have medical diets and that has never been an issue for them. This time, we had to tolerate the owner bad mouthing the breakfast staff to anyone who would listen at the bar, dust, and a night without sleep. Our room (number 1) was above the coolers so they rumbled all night. We have suffered this without too many problems in the past (we have a dog and that is the only room they will let dogs in.... small but very noisy) but this stay we also had water rumbling and bubbling all night. I reckoned i had a three minute slot to sleep each time before the next episode. Needless to say we didnt sleep much. It seems they knew about this problem. Our meal was excellent as usual however the waitress was the worst ever. We had to keep asking for cutlery to eat our meal with rather than use our fingers, and asked for wine. Rather than bring what i wanted she brought the wine list then cleared off... our food was nearly cold by the time we gave up - we couldnt find her so gave up on the idea of a drink with the meal. It seems that once the kitchen staff have served the food they all go home... it was up to the dopey waitress to do the deserts. I had no choice, whereas in the past i have had wonderful choices that made my stay so special. (they have an excellent gluten free bakery nearby and they have bought from them in the past). it was take it or leave it! The dry cake like pud was boring and unappetising. it was a good job i had taken my own soya cream to moisten it. Hubby had a very nice desert but had to ask for cutlery again in order to get the stuff out of the tall glass it came in... the desert spoon just wouldnt fit in it! Coffee was served but they had no soya milk and she didnt consider the accompanying sweets and my allergies (they had soya milk but dopey waitress didnt know where it was) and my soya cream had been used on the pudding. i find it totally unacceptable that kitchen staff go home before the customers have finished their meal. Just one member of "kitchen staff" (not a waitress who was useless at her own job let alone the kitchen work too) should have been left to finish the job they had started so well. Had the food been hot it would have been wonderful, in fact the flavour was. The chef is excellent, it is the organisation and other staff that let him down. He is too good for them at the moment.
We will return as we have had so many excellent meals there in the past. Lets just hope that next time, the waitress has been sacked or has been trained properly and that they sort out the negative feeling that surrounds the place.. Sorry guys, you need to sort this out before you lose your reputation.

Room Tip: a noisy location on a corner. Rooms overlooking the car park are the quietest and avoid room number...

Out for an impromptu day in the Dales we stopped at the George and Dragon for lunch. From the well kept pint of "Black Sheep" to all three plates of food, it was a delight. If you want a warm welcome and excellent home cooked food, you might consider this lovely pub. Mary from Harrogate

We stayed in room 2 with four poster bed - the cloth canopy was covered in thick layer of dust which clearly had not been cleaned for ages. Had to take great care not to knock the bed and disturb all the dust 'fairies'. The fancy bedside cabinet lamps were same which I wiped myself as were so bad. Noticed lamps in bar/restaurant were same. While having breakfast vacuuming was taking place and then very strong smell of brasso while the landlady was cleaning the pumps in the bar area was very off putting while trying to eat and extremely inconsiderate to customers. The complex shower unit in the bathroom looked like it was dated from the Eighties, was encrusted with limescale and smelled of damp mould, really needs a good clean. Breakfast food was actually good and the service from the waitress was excellent. We booked a mid week 3 for 2 night deal as advertised on their website, but when checking out they tried to charge us for 3 full nights. After showing them a copy of their website, they agreed to correct the bill.

Room Tip: Not room 2, too much noise from the bar below.
