“Fantastic!!”
Reviewed 17 May 2009

Wow, what a place. I booked Bora Bora for our ten year wedding anniversary about 7 months in advance. It was absolutely gorgeous. The room was so nicely done out. Fantastic, huge bathroom with roll top bath and under floor heating. Bathrobes and slippers were also provided. Not one but two tvs if you feel the need to watch them which we didn't as we spent most of our time in the private hot tub in the garden!
The food at The Crab and lobster was fantastic, but prepare to pay alot for it. Breakfast was really good with croissants and toast, cereal and fresh fruit and then a choice of various cooked breakfasts. We went for the Yorkshire breakfast which was really good.
Overall we loved this place and are already thinking of booking up for next year as if you want a room with a private hot tub you need to book well in advance.

My boyfriend and I stayed in Bardola Lodge pretty much when they were first built. We'd hear about the Crab and Lobster through friends and just had to go.

We went for our birthdays in January and totally loved it, so much so, now we are getting married there in Sept 09 and have been back to eat several times.

The quality is superb and you really feel like you could be miles away from 'reality'. I couldn't recommed this enough for people who want a treat!

We go to the crab and lobster once or twice a year for great seafood and a fabulous/unusual place to stay. Very quirky lots of antiques hanging around and great Ale Bole music playing. Seafood is worth the 150 mile drive for and have not been disappointed so far in our 5 years of visiting. Have not yet, however, managed to get a room with hot tub - will make this an objective for 2009.
Fab, fab - the breakfast is amazing too.

Staff at reception were friendly, informative, helpful and efficient. The porter gave us the guided tour and then showed us to our room. We were in the Cypriani Palace - quirkey but great once you got used to the wall paper! Very comfortable four-poster bed. Loved the bath. Gardens, beautiful. Food and service faultless. Can't wait to go again.

We stayed for one night as part of our honeymoon in the Bora Bora Suite. The bathroom was way passed it's best with cracked floor tiles and bizarrely no door so no chance of privacy. The hot tub was great fun, we enjoyed that.

Mostly the stay was ok, but spoiled by the inadequate bathing facilities. We reported a fault to the hotel before going to dinner. The bath took 45 mins to run 6 inches of water and there was no shower. Near impossible to wash chlorine hot tub hair in.

We weren't informed there was a problem on arrival, we were told it was a recurrent fault however when we asked them to look at it. We were not told whether it had been rectified, but assumed not as we had the same fiasco the next morning.

This is not a cheap hotel and had come highly recommended, we expected better.

We complained upon check out (we were offered champagne on our next stay - under the circumstances unlikely to happen) and in writing after our stay. We were offered a free mid-week stay any time in the next 18 months.

When we called to arrange this the manager called us all but liars ansd told us that was not policy. We forwarded the original correspondence, which was not acknowledged and we were not offered so much as an apology.

The stay was pleasant enough on the whole, being our honeymoon we wanted perfect. I would not return based on the treatment we received after our stay. However, I do know many people who have nothing but praise for Crab Manor, may be we were just unlucky.

Stayed at the Crab Manor for a friend's wedding in November and it was just absolutely amazing room start to finish.

we stayed in the cipriani palace, a fabulous room with venetian features, the comfiest bed and a lovely free standing bath.
there are lots of nice touches (from the glass to help yourself to beer if you find the secret beer pump hidden in the hotel walls, to the handmade yorkshire crisps). the most fabulous thing, though, is the food. we had a simple 'fish club sandwich' from the restaurant for a quick snack before the wedding, and were blown away by the amount, presentation and quality of the food - just gorgeous! and then the food for the actual wedding reception was jut divine. i am still dreaming of the crab encrusted halibut! lovely staff, and the most amazing breakfast menu the next morning i have ever had the pleasure to order from - if we didn't live in london i would be going back quick sharp!

We arrived at 1pm to a frosty reception at reception and explained we were early but had a restaurant reservation at 2pm and would go for our meal. This was met with a 'What are you telling me for?' look from the lady behind the desk.
Anyway, we shook that off and went for our meal in the crab and lobster. The interior is great, I've tried hard to think how to explain it but all I can come up with is kooky. I'll write a more detailed impression of the meal on the restaurant section.
When we got back to check in at the hotel we were pleased that a friendlier lady had replaced the sourpuss we were met with earlier. She took us to the Bora Bora room which we had booked months ago for a romantic evening (and it was my wife's 30th birthday present). The room is lovely and could be up there amongst the many we have stayed in over the years. There is a hot tub outside but it was a bit chilly and raining so we could not make use of it. At first the central heating did not work but this was quickly remedied and we received a credit to our bill for the inconvenience.
So we shared a bottle of champagne and started to relax.. That's when the music started. The Bora Bora room is right next to where they hold wedding receptions and it got to a point where my wife and I were singing along to the songs coming from the jukebox. We had to complain in the end and they sent someone to investigate. Unfortunately this did not cure the problem and our pleas were met with 'In 50 weddings we have never had this problem'. I'm guessing that is because the Bora Bora room is usually occupied by the guests from the event being held since it is the nicest room. So from 8pm until 12am we were barraged with 'Wake Me Up Before You Go Go' and at the end of the evening we finished the evening by singin along to 'Bohemian Rhapsody'.
So, my word of warning is do not stay here if there is an event on and you are not involved. The Bora Bora room, whilst being very nice, has next to no sound protection and a combination of the music and the noise of the guests coming back to their rooms left a bit of a sour taste.
The breakfast was really nice tho!
