“Basic”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

Friendly staff, good basic comfortable room, marred by the fact that for some reason in the refurb they have decided visitors don't need to store clothes!
Only 7 hangers on open rail between the 3 of us and NO drawer storage so be prepared to live out of your case. Teenage son in his element, being used to draping clothes over furniture.
The dual carriage way means that you need to go miles out of your way to get back to hotel from York direction. Minor irritation.
Was able to have the dog stay with us and was convenient for where we wanted to visit, excellent price for school holidays

Situated just off the A64 east, this site has a petrol station and a small Little Chef and BurgerKing. Beware of the use of their sat nav postcode. This will direct you to the other side of the A.64, coincidentally to the Premier Inn. Should you make the same mistake as we did, continue along the A64 for about 3-4 miles, take the first left-hand exit and double back onto the A64, and take the exit marked "services". BP, Little Chef, and BurgerKing are marked clearly with the Travelodge on the bottom of the board. The entrance is in fact straight ahead.

We arrived around 19.00, with a reservation. Check in was instant, no waiting, and the cheery young receptionist asked whether we would require a taxi, or a hair dryer. He also said for security purposes the entrance door would be locked at 10.00 pm, but our key would allow us to gain entry after this time. He added that he would be on duty until 11.00 pm when Chris would be on reception until 07.00 am, should we require anything. He also gave us two vouchers giving 10% off a meal for dinner and breakfast at the Little Chef.

He then directed us to our room which was on the first floor, facing a huge expanse of rolling countryside, and with the evening sun coming in the window made the room very light and airy. This room obviously faces northwest and therefore away from the main road and the traffic noise.

We had read that this Travelodge was a "refurbished" hotel and we were very pleasantly surprised. The room has a large king sized bed which was very comfortable. There is hanging space with six hangers, ample room for suitcases, a wall mounted TV, a desk with a large mirror, over which was a light. Lighting in hotels is invariable poor, particularly with the advent of low energy bulbs, and this is really no exception, although better than many. However the bathroom lighting Is good. There are also two fairly basic but comfortable chairs. The biggest surprise was to find that, gone was the measly bar of soap in the sink, to be replaced by a foaming soap dispenser, and in the bath was another dispenser stating it was hair and body wash. Tea and coffee is provided with further replenishment of milk/coffee/tea and sugar from reception if needed.

The standard of the room is more aligned to that of Premier Inn hotels and certainly above previous Travelodge premises in which we have stayed. Unlike many of the large chains of hotels like Hilton and Holiday Inn where Internet is charged for, Travelodge gives visitors 30 minutes of free wi-fi, with a charge of £3.00 thereafter.

We would definitely stay here again when visiting York.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back on the 1st floor, away from the A64

The staff were really helpful - Danny the receptionist especially. The rooms were clean and set up ready for us and were very stylish. Great position to get to the centre of York easily. The breakfast boxes were a bit limited but filing healthy and nutritious. The only criticism is a squeaky fire door near to our rooms, but hopefully this will have been rectified if we go up again.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter

Stayed here for the second time in my life.....WOW what a difference. Fantastic new refit. The bed was so comfortable, Oh and the extra pillows were wonderful, my partner and I both slept like logs! But the most amazing feature was the shower curtain rail.....yes, you read that right..the shower curtain rail. The new rails 'bow' out which means that whilst showering you do not get eaten by the shower curtain...heavenly :) The staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend this Travelodge if you need a bed in the area. The only reason I did not rate it excellent was because unlike other Travelodges I have stayed in, it did not have an all night bar!

The cleanliness of this hotel was the best of all Travelodges I have stayed in. The room was spotless and very up to date. The receptionist was friendly from the start and very helpful.

The only draw back was the central reservation has now been closed and therefore we had to travel to the next exit and come back on the other side of the carriageway after our outing to York. When we stayed at New Year it was possible to do a u-turn on the dual carriageway. I understand this has been done for safety reasons by the local council and is not the fault of the hotel, however it was a small inconvenience. I said at the time I wouldn't return to this hotel because of this but we only had to go a short way out of our way so I possibly would stay again

|Excellent place to stay, the staff couldn't do enough for us, thoroughly recommend it.
The location was perfect, with a Little Chef on site for meals and a petrol station, be it quite expensive, for drinks etc

We had purchased a weeks wifi subscription with the group and had no trouble with access at hotels in South Cave, and Livingston. Edinburgh during our stays. In the room at Tadcaster we were unable to access the service at all in the evening. Our room was at the extreme end of the hotel and according to the staff. always was problematical regarding wifi reception. We were promised a refund of our subscriptin but two days later gave heard nothing! AS we had to subscribe to another ISP we feel a refund is in order.
