5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 May 2014

We booked a last minute trip through the Sunday night club deal including cream tea, three course evening meal, bed and breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our stay at Crathorne. The staff were all very welcoming and made our stay very enjoyable and relaxing whilst the quality of the food was fantastic throughout. A highly recommended location and great value, we will certainly be visiting again.

My wife, daughter and i visited on a Sunday afternoon for Afternoon Tea. From pulling up at the hotel to leaving we were delighted with what we had. The hotel is lovely and the staff were very nice also. the Afternoon Tea was spot on. Lots of lovely food and surroundings. We could not eat it all so the waitress kindly boxed what was left for us to take away.
I would recommend this hotel and will def go back
Thanks :)

I booked a night away at Crathorne Hall to celebrate my husbands 40th birthday and we had a wonderful time. Our welcome from Bethany was lovely she was so helpful and nothing was too much trouble for her. We stayed in the Maltby room which was out of this world, total luxury! Dinner in the restaurant was lovely as was breakfast the next morning. A faultless stay. Thank you to everyone x

my daughter and i were invited for afternoon tea here with a good friend and thought the place was so beautiful when we first arrived and maybe could have felt more at home in long Victorian dresses. However, its has adapted to modern life and we we were treated with great respect by wonderful polite staff who didnt rush us and looked after us very well. The afternoon tea was perfect. The staff kept coming back to us to ask if we needed anything else but at good intervals ans we wernt rushed or pressured in anyway.. It was a fantastic experience. the place was spotless and very atmospheric.

We would like to thank the hotel and staff at Crathorne for a fabulous day. The service, attention to detail and quality of our wedding day was perfect. The food was well presented and tasted lovely, the room was set out exactly as we had asked. The guests loved the relaxed atmosphere and all would recommend the hotel to friends and family. We were impressed all day and night and couldn't of wished for a better day. I am not sure what happened to our wedding coordinator Charlotte as the day passed so quickly but she did an amazing job from start to finish helping us plan and nothing was ever a problem. To our toast master and wine expert . . .who we seen at the tasting evening and joined us on our day big thank you everybody commented on both wines which I believe are both exclusive to the hotel and how nice they were. Honestly the hotel staff were just fantastic. So thank you again. If anyone is planning a wedding if you go to Crathorne your day will be one you remember for all the right reasons forever. Lisa and Craig

We stayed here on Saturday after a night out in Yarm with friends. It's is only a fifteen minute taxi ride away.

The room we got was called Maltby. It had a huge double bed which was really comfortable and a balcony with great views out over the countryside. The decor in the bedroom was really nice, as was the bathroom. The room was also really quiet, despite being in the main part of the hotel. We never got disturbed once.

The TV had the usual Freeview channels and a couple of Sky Sports channels. There were also plenty of tea and coffee making facilities (a standard kettle and a filter coffee machine).

The setting is really nice and it all makes for a really relaxing atmosphere.

I had a full English for breakfast. There was plenty to eat and it was all cooked perfect.
The view from the breakfast room was the same as the one from our room. You could be miles away from anywhere. It was great to just take our time and enjoy it all.

This isn't the first time I've stayed at this hotel. We often have our works Christmas dinner here. For us it is normally £100 per night for the room. But it means you don't have any taxis to pay for and it's just a nice treat for us.

The room we got this time was clearly one of the better rooms. But even the standard ones are well appointed.

I'm sure we will back again later in the year and I would recommend this hotel to anyone who fancies a break from it all. Like I said, it's really relaxing.

Stayed at Crathorne for one night over Easter weekend. Had contacted the hotel prior to our stay and asked if it was possible to be allocated a room with a balcony, this was honoured no problem and the room was named Borrowby. Nice size room with great views of the countryside and River Leven. We were fortunate with the weather enabling us to make the most of the balcony during our brief stay,( Did not care for the cigarette stubs which was pushed into parts of the wall on balcony). Bathroom was small but adequate and appeared to have been recently refurbished, however some places was displaying poor finishes and discolouring taps, which was a shame. During our stay was a Wedding taking place, which was great but small things like full ashtrays still on tables from day before outside, especially at a door entrance is not what anyone wishes to see or be greeted with, I ordered Eggs Benedict for breakfast expecting homemade hollandaise sauce but was greatly disappointed when I was served this dish with packet sauce. I returned this, more so after finding eggshell in my dish and asked for an alternative which was more up to standard. We did not eat in the restaurant so unable to comment, chose to drive into Yarm where there is a vast range of restaurants a bars. Overall, a nice hotel in a peaceful location.

Room Tip: Borrowby has a balcony with great views

Dear Dawn L44

Thank you for your lovely review regarding your recent stay at Crathorne Hall and it was a pleasure to have you both here.

The Borrowby room is a great room for not only the size of the room but also the beautiful view over the Leven valley and with the balcony to seat out on, you get that extra sense of peace as you enjoy the countryside around us.

I would like to mention that the bathroom points were in hand before you arrived and within a short time these will be completed. Having been onto the balcony, after receiving your review I can confirm that there are no cigarette ends anywhere and we also do not use packet hollandaise on anything - it is all homemade and has been for many years. We recently reviewed and added new dishes to our breakfast menu, as you mentioned and the 'Eggs Royale' is going down a storm.

Thank you for your review and I hope we will have the opportunity to welcome you back in the near future.

Kind regards

Peter
