Me and my wife stayed here for are 2nd wedding anniversary. We dined in the restaurant in the evening. Everything was spot on. I would highly recommended the Peach Melba is it truly unbelievable! All In all a brilliant experience. Think we'll make this a yearly treat. Thank you to the GT.

We did not stay but held a dinner party for friends in the restaurant. The welcome and the service were faultless and the food and choice excellent. All the staff we met were charming and helpful and added to the pleasure of our meal.

Well,I do not think I can praise this hotel enough, it was a last minute find on late rooms, FANTASTIC value for money indeed, this must be one of the best kept secrets around Knaresborough......I was working in the area and once I arrived I invited some friends who live local, we had a very relaxing evening indeed, the reception rooms are fantastic, the staff are absolutely spot on, and I am not exaggerating one bit.........talk about exceptional value for money.......I found out later that the food in this place is absolutely spot on by one of the top chefs who started gastro pubs I was really sorry I had already eaten, save to say that next time I will be forewarned, I would really like to thank all of the staff for making this stay so memorable, I will be taking my family to stay to experience this for themselves.

Room Tip: if you are thinking of staying in the area put this hotel at the top of your list, you won't be...

We enjoyed our stay at The General Tarleton, it is a country Inn furnished to a very high standard, food is first class but a little on the expensive side, staff all 100%. the only small problem is that we were in room 7, as mentioned before furnished to a very high standard but, unfortunately, delivery lorries started to arrive at 6:00am reversing, parking & unloading directly outside our window.

Room Tip: Try to steer clear of the side of the hotel where Room 7 is.

We only stayed one night as a stop over as we were travelling from the south up to Scotland and will certainly stay here again next time we are passing. Our bedroom was extremely comfortable and couldn't be faulted. There were even home made biscuits.
Even though it was Saturday night and the restaurant was full, the service was excellent. The menu is of a sensible length with not too many things to select from. Our only problem was that we could have happily chosen anything on offer and we were not disappointed with our choices as they were all superb.
The staff were all extremely efficient, friendly and always smiling.

I love staying at this Inn. The rooms are small but tastefully decorated. The bathrooms are well equipped and modern. But the ace in hand is the fantastic restaurant. The staff are attentive and the wine waiter is very knowledgeable. The food is fantastic and reasonably priced. Even the breakfast is something to look forward too. Would recommend that if you stay here you must eat here.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper ask for a room not on the car park

This was our third visit to the General Tarleton which has been renovated since our last stay.
The room and en suite bathroom were splendid with very comfortable beds and spotlessly clean.
The Manager made us most welcome and offered assistance with our luggage.
We had booked by email and I mentioned that my wife particularly liked the Smoked Haddock, Poached Egg and Spinach which they served for breakfast on a previous visit. Although no longer on the breakfast menu the Chef produced it for us which is typical of the service and attention to detail at this excellent hotel. I would especially mention the young lady barmaid from the Czech Republic and the young waitress. Both of these ladies were extremely well trained and were most efficient and yet unobtrusive. Best of all they seemed genuinely pleased to be of service.
If anyone is planning to see the Tour de France in July they could do no better than booking a room at The General Tarleton.
