The guest house is fine - rooms a bit small but acceptable. I think the land lady was having a bad day - generally the reviews are good so-I give the benefit of the doubt - but after confirming the time of arrival an hour and half before - arrived and the place was shut up. A couple of phone calls and the place were opened up about 10 mins later. Despite have booked through a dog friendly link on the internet - we were told the charge paid did not include the dog. Fair enough at £8. We then we were given an un -interruptible run down of all that dog owners can and can’t do in very firm (curt?) manner.Deffinatly not left guessing.
We were left in the room with the key provided. Later we went out but on return found the key did not open the door – on inspection - the key was for a different room. After repeated knocking on the ‘no entry’ office door – we open the door to see any one was home. Knocked loudly on adjoining doors and called for assistance - eventually greeted by a disgruntled young lady who was not happy that we had entered the room after knocking and calling for several minutes. Explained the situation and ‘courteously’ the key was exchanged for the correct one. So top tip - please remember to check the key you are given is for your room! It must be your responsibility - our mistake.
Next morning took dog out for short walk and on return – walking past the dining area were told bluntly’ you can’t bring that in here’. We had no intention but at least we weren’t left guessing – which could be viewed as a positive.
I don’t like to be unduly harsh, the accommodation was Ok , the town was nice and the weather was great – but I do think owners need to be aware that they are guest houses and those staying are not an inconvenience. – Perhaps she will be happier another day -

Room Tip: Enjoy the town - enjoy your stay - you are a paying guest - so if treated curtly - its not your issu...

this place was a hidden gem - on the main road into Filey it is 1 minute from the bus station and 5 minutes from the beach. It had all the facilities needed to make a great base and breakfast was included.
Rooms were small because they now all have ensuite but were clean and well equipped
The owner was really friendly and willing to assist in any way
Would definitely go back

We have just had a short break at the Hallam Guest House in Filey. The owners were very friendly and made us very welcome. The room we stayed in was very clean and well decorated. The bed was fab we did not want to get out of it as it was so comfy. The breakfast was great, all manner of cereals, juices, yogurts and full English on top. Well done and we will be back.

Room Tip: All rooms looked spacious and clean

We stayed here for two nights last week for my partners birthday when I called to book I mentioned a cake and she made me one for the cost of the stuff :-). Whilst we were having breakfast the cake and banners were put up in the room. Our room was great a super king (or two twins) and a bunk bed for us and our son plenty of storage and very clean hospitality tray filled up after first night small but adequate bathroom with good quality toiletries nice breakfast all in all for the price I was very pleased we were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble if I'm ever in thee area again I would definitely stay here

The guest house is situated on the main through road of Filey and is perfectly placed, being approx 5 minutes stroll to the beach (a bit longer if you are heading for either of the areas that allow pooches). Don't be detered that it is next to the main road as Filey is such a quiet little town that you are not disturbed by this at all, plus the windows block out so much noise! Infact, the only noise that you will encounter is from other guests coming in at all hours of the night. You are provided your own keys to the doors so you can come and go as you please, which if you are taking pets is brilliant.
No, the guest house does not offer parking, but there is room to be found on nearby streets for free or there is a car park across the road behind Tesco's (which is itself a bonus).
Only being able to comment on our room: The room was bright, roomy and spotless with a perfect little en-suite bathroom. We had a family room that had a double (or 2 singles pushed together) and bunk-beds. You have freeview, a DVD player, kettle and drinks, toiletries, towels and stuff under the bed for your kids to play with.
Breakfast is included in your stay and is well worth it, you can choose from a selection of cereals or have a superb full english with the nicest sausages you will ever eat. They are happy to accomodate any combination of the fare on offer if you only want certain things. Be warned though, it is served at 8-9 only, so if you like a lie in be prepared to go elsewhere, although I am sure if you ask nicely they will save you a bit of something.
Yes there are other places that are that little bit closer, or have a pretty view and offer parking... but you will be paying for all those things. For the price, this place is a find and well worth the stay, and of course that they happily allow dogs (for an additional £8 p.n) is fantastic. We thank you Sam for having us and hope to see you again in the future.

What a find! We needed somewhere last minute that had a family room, and that wouldn't charge the earth ( is it just me, or is anyone else sick of being charged the earth for being a family!) i couldnt believe my luck when i found this gem! Lovely owners, comfortable beds, clean fluffy towels, well kept room, and family friendly to boot! And the breakfast was excellent! Will be staying again soon!
