“Fantastic service”
Reviewed 6 August 2013

Me and my husband were both really happy with this hotel, the communication and service was second to none.
We were allocated the family room on the top floor with our two sons, the room was clean and very welcoming. It had a small shower room which was more than adequate for our needs. I was impressed with the tray we had, it was full of biscuits tea coffee and hot chocolate, which to be fair was not expecting in the fee we paid. There was also shower gel, shampoo and conditioner.

The breakfast was plentiful and tasty. It must have been nice, as my son asked for more!!

All in all fantastic little place, would Definatly stay again!

Sam, she was welcoming and such a nice lady, thank you!

easy to find and just parked at the nearby car park all night! did laugh on checking in when the man who checked me in told me he found it "odd" that i was staying there for one night before booking into a caravan site! never been called "odd" before on booking in! the room was small which they do make you aware of, but had an ensuite shower room so no problems and all clean and very cosy! cannot fault the Hallam! my daughter loved watching the lightning and shooting stars from the velux window! the room was what i expected, had a good nights sleep, good shower, room very clean and the breakfast (and they were fully booked and busy) was great and the lady who served us was very pleasant despite being very busy! would stop here again!

Room Tip: our room was great, just nice for a girlie family night! think it was room 5! at the rear with love...

Ok the good points - nice breakfast, on street free parking nearby was a free for all but we had no problem finding a space. We arrived 2 hours before check in time but as the room was ready they let us in which was handy. Thought the decor was tired looking, bathroom and shower are small but adequate. As we had a family room it was right at the top - no problem in itself - but there are a few parts of the room to bump your head i.e when getting out of my side of the bed. Our 3 and 5 year old daughters had bunk beds, unfortunately our youngest shuffles and we were woken to the bang of her falling out of bed on to the laminate floor, the top bunk has safety bar but the bottom doesn't. Overall not too bad but we have paid less for better.

The guest house is fine - rooms a bit small but acceptable. I think the land lady was having a bad day - generally the reviews are good so-I give the benefit of the doubt - but after confirming the time of arrival an hour and half before - arrived and the place was shut up. A couple of phone calls and the place were opened up about 10 mins later. Despite have booked through a dog friendly link on the internet - we were told the charge paid did not include the dog. Fair enough at £8. We then we were given an un -interruptible run down of all that dog owners can and can’t do in very firm (curt?) manner.Deffinatly not left guessing.
We were left in the room with the key provided. Later we went out but on return found the key did not open the door – on inspection - the key was for a different room. After repeated knocking on the ‘no entry’ office door – we open the door to see any one was home. Knocked loudly on adjoining doors and called for assistance - eventually greeted by a disgruntled young lady who was not happy that we had entered the room after knocking and calling for several minutes. Explained the situation and ‘courteously’ the key was exchanged for the correct one. So top tip - please remember to check the key you are given is for your room! It must be your responsibility - our mistake.
Next morning took dog out for short walk and on return – walking past the dining area were told bluntly’ you can’t bring that in here’. We had no intention but at least we weren’t left guessing – which could be viewed as a positive.
I don’t like to be unduly harsh, the accommodation was Ok , the town was nice and the weather was great – but I do think owners need to be aware that they are guest houses and those staying are not an inconvenience. – Perhaps she will be happier another day -

Room Tip: Enjoy the town - enjoy your stay - you are a paying guest - so if treated curtly - its not your issu...

this place was a hidden gem - on the main road into Filey it is 1 minute from the bus station and 5 minutes from the beach. It had all the facilities needed to make a great base and breakfast was included.
Rooms were small because they now all have ensuite but were clean and well equipped
The owner was really friendly and willing to assist in any way
Would definitely go back

We have just had a short break at the Hallam Guest House in Filey. The owners were very friendly and made us very welcome. The room we stayed in was very clean and well decorated. The bed was fab we did not want to get out of it as it was so comfy. The breakfast was great, all manner of cereals, juices, yogurts and full English on top. Well done and we will be back.

Room Tip: All rooms looked spacious and clean
