“Fantastic holiday, will be back”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 December 2013

We stayed in a Chatham property in October for 4 nights (Mon-Fri). It was our Scottish October break so the site was pretty quiet, I'm sure it would be much busier in peak holiday periods.

Our house had 3 bedrooms and was lovely, warm and spacious. The fixtures and fittings were of a high standard and we had plenty of room for 2 adults and 2 kids (aged 7 and 4). The overhead rainfall showers were fantastic, felt really quite spoiled and am now looking into getting one!

We used the pool and it was lovely, not too cold and plenty of room to actually swim in. There was a section cordoned off for people wanting to do some serious swimming, a good idea. You need a £1 coin for the lockers in the changing rooms.

The walk to the beach is lovely as is the beach, perfect for dog owners. We used the chemist when we arrived to stock up on some things, friendly staff and although a small range of items they were reasonably priced. We had takeaway pizza from the Italian cafe one night and it was delicious, would recommend it. We didn't eat in the pub, ran out of time.

The Bay is an excellent base to visit lots of different attractions in the area - we visited Scarborough, Whitby, Staithes (where Old Jack's Boat is filmed - kids are cBeebies fans!), Beverley, York, Bridlington and Malton.

We will definitely return here probably to the same accommodation type as well as it provided lots of space and had all the mod cons you could ever need. The Bay is absolutely perfect if you are a dog owner (we're not), it's really geared up for them.

Wonderful and clean little houses fully equipped with everything you can think of very friendly reception staff. The onsite cafe and shop are closed in the winter which is disappointing. The leisure facilities were excellent and the little pub was quaint but could with being a little more child friendly.

We paid to stay in a cottage for 3 nights in Nov (family of 4) but could only stay for 2 due to school on Monday. The location and facilities are excellent, but there are a couple of things that let it down: The cleanliness of the house we were in was not up to scratch, crumbs still on the tables, dead flies on the mattress protector and dust in places. It was certainly showing wear and tear. We ate in the pub on the Saturday night and Sunday Lunch. It was the usual pub fare pub but the staff were quite miserable on the whole (with a couple of exceptions). There was no loo roll on arrival. we were told to bring a dishcloth etc which we did but no-one mention the loo rolls. There was a chemist on site that was shut. A snotty woman who answered the phone line said they do not supply them, however reception and security did come up with the goods. We had a fantastic time on the beach, in the pool and playing football with our 2 children and the bits above did not spoil our stay, however if I was staying for longer and perhaps paying school holiday prices, I would expect better customer service, cleanliness and staff friendliness. Other staff need to take note from the security guard who was exceptional.

Room Tip: Accommodation on Talisker Walk is near the pub!

We booked a three night weekend away via the Hoseasons website. The price was good and a good choice of accommodation for our family of five. We were keen on a place on the coast, but with facilities should the weather be too bad for walks on the beach.

Arriving on the Friday evening the staff were very helpful on check in and with our initial questions about the house.

The house was clean and tidy with all the items you would hope for. It was well appointed near the central area and path to the beach. We spent our weekend on the beach, in the pool and visiting Filey. We did use the pup but the coffee shop was closed, perhaps because we were off season.

We will be back but did think that the property could do with slightly better management - ie they are cutting a few corners that do not make sense such as having a log stove with no complementary logs, or facility to pay for them (we used drift wood from the beach!), no oven gloves or kitchen soap etc. cleaning could have also been a bit more thorough .

We did need to call for assistance with faults, but staff where quick to respond. There was a fault with the pool heating that was a bit disappointing.

Overall a good stay, with just a few niggles that did not effect our stay

Overall The Bay offers a lovely stay with good customer service. Got a cheap price as off peak season much cheaper than a hotel over weekend. We stayed in a Solo apartment which was adequate with all amenities. Could have been a little cleaner but there wasn't anything worth being too bothered about. Nice pub with friendly atmosphere. Some building work going on but it didn't disturb our stay.
Would definitely recommend.

The developement, beach house & fixtures & fittings were very good. We stayed here for 3 nights via Hosesons but were disappointed that we had to pay an extra £15 if we wanted to check in before 5. The staff were not that friendly compared to other places we have stayed at. Although the beach house was built to a high standard & all fixtures & fittings were very good we couldn't understand why you would want flashing coloured lights in the kitchen but no dish cloth, tea cloth or oven gloves supled. On the kitchen floor was a big fluffy rug which looked abit dirty & carn't have been cleaned underneath because we removed it & found 20p under it. Another negative for us was that the front door had clear glass & could have done with a blind for nights. Lastly the bathroom lights came on as you opened the door & after you had gone out they stayed on a good 10min's or more which seemed rather a waste of electricty. We still had a good time & did a good walk along the beach to Filey & then back along the road.

The rooms and location is very good! We arrived on Friday night, due to us arriving late we have to call the number on the reception door, the security guard arrived very quick and showed us our rooms. He advised to call back tomorrow to pay a £100 deposit, when questioned this he said they would take a swipe of our card and not take any money (hoeseasons advised us of this) due to the very short break we didn't go on the Saturday as we was enjoying the warm
Weather on the beach which was a very short walk from where the complex is situated! The pub is ok, the staff seem to be very brisk and feel irritated that by you asking for a drink, very short with you and not really any smiles unless the staff are talking to each other! So we was getting ready to go out on the Sunday and we had a knock at the door from the receptionist asking us to go to reception and pay our £100 deposit???! So we went and they said we would have to pay the £100 and they would refund this in the next 7-10 working days??? Never heard something so stupid? So we wasn't very happy and the receptionist advised she would do this as a "sale" and she would refund this the day of our departure! We arrived home and checked our bank? Still no money credited from the bay? Called them and said this should be there, so we are still awaiting our £100 deposit! Think they just say whatever they like just to get us off there back! Please be aware to have an extra £100 if ur booking a cheap weekend away before payday as we did!
