Carlton Old hall is a Grade II listed building that has been sympathetically restored while retaining many original 17th Century period features.
The property is situated in the north of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, in the remote village of Carlton in Coverdale. Access by road is challenging in parts, particularly when approaching from the North and the South West . Carlton is approximately 5.5 miles form Leyburn and 16 miles from Hawes.
Carlton Old Hall is well appointed throughout. It is evident that considerable care and attention to detail has been spent during the recent restoration and redecoration. There is a superb view from the rear of the property across the valley to the moors opposite. In the hours before sunset, the light striking the moors makes the view come alive, providing a perfect backdrop for watching rabbits, pheasants and the occasional hedgehog on the lawn, while sipping a G&T or glass of wine.
All of the people in our party immediately felt at home and comfortable in the surroundings, which is a tribute to the owners who have gone to great lengths to provide suitable facilities for their guests. A welcome hamper, logs for the fire and a quality bottle of wine are examples of the nice touches throughout.
In particular we appreciated the efforts made to accommodate our 20 month old granddaughter through the provision of a high chair, stair gates and travel cot, as well as books, games and toys.
Communication with the owners during the booking and prior to/after arrival were both timely and informative.
Overall we were delighted with our stay and would not hestitate in recommending the property as a quiet, relaxing base from which to explore the Dales.
