Had a lovely time with Bob and Lesley looking after us at Cockett's. Nothing was too much trouble as usual. The food was amazing and the rooms lovely. Hawes was beautiful - all the Christmas lights looked magical and there was a little Xmas market. Santa came to town on his tractor driven sleigh with amazing fireworks going off in the background! Will definitely be back next year to experience this lovely weekend.

We have just spent three nights over the New Year at Cockett’s Hotel. On arrival we parked directly outside the hotel, although I can imagine it may be more difficult in the summer. There is a small, free, car park across the road, into which we moved our car on Monday night, just in case there was a market on Tuesday.

As previously mentioned the hotel is deceptively spacious inside and very warm and cosy with an unusual stove in the bar/reception and open fire in the lounge. The dining room was well appointed with ample space between the tables.

We had a superior bedroom at the back of the hotel which was very clean, comfortable and quiet. Toiletries, tea making facilities, bath robes and a hair drier were provided.

Bob and Lesley were excellent hosts, making us feel most welcome, they were full of information and Bob in particular has a great sense of humour.

Breakfasts provided a good choice with quality ingredients. We ate elsewhere for 2 nights and had the Gala Dinner at Cockett’s on New Year’s Eve. The food and service were excellent. We started with champagne and nibbles in the lounge and were joined by Bob and Lesley for more champagne at midnight. The ambience of the evening made for a memorable end/start to the year.

Room Tip: Book a superior room at the back of the hotel.

My wife and I have just returned from a weekend stay after booking through the internet,
The owners are great and very friendly and always have time to chat if thats what you want.Nothing was too much trouble.
We ate in the restaurant both nights and enjoyed very good meals with no complaints at all, hot plates, good presentation and plenty of it.
This is a very small homely hotel, with comfy beds and nice clean and tidy rooms, you can see they are going out of there way to make you welcome.
We will be making a return visit next year.
It is a great place for walking and the views are fantastic.

I booked this on Friday as a last minute decision to go away for the weekend. I was torn between 2 places, but when I phoned up to enquire - the phone call made my decision for me. The owner was absolutely delightful. He was friendly, and even offered us a small discount. When we turned up he knew who we were instantly without saying a word - it really was homely. We were shown to our room (Wensleydale) and it was gorgeous. We were offered dinner at the restaurant for the next evening, so we decided to go for it. It was perfect!! Before we went in to the dining room, we sat in the residential lounge by a roaring fire drinking a fine bottle of white. There was a lovely choice of food, all of what we chose was cooked to perfection. The same applies for the scrumptious breakfasts too!! All staff were extremely friendly, attentive and made you feel welcome from the off right to the end - we will definitely be making a return trip in the near future.

A last minute weekend away turned out to be something really special. Excellent service from congenial hosts, a lovely four poster room but the real surprise was the evening menu. We've eaten in some pretty special places but this was a real surprise. Don't want to praise it too much as we want to keep it to ourselves!! Pay a visit & enjoy. Five out of five!!

Room Tip: Go for the four posters!!

I stayed here in early September while taking part in the Yorkshire Dales Outdoor Festival. It was conveniently situated in the heart of Hawes, but has limited parking in front, which you have to catch an open space when you can, and is not available on Tuesday Market Day. The host and staff were very friendly and accommodating, and the breakfast was good (I did not have dinner there). My room was in the far end of the hotel, not above the restaurant, and it was a reasonable size with a shower bathroom that was just big enough. I faced the High Street but it was quiet enough for sleeping, after all it’s not London! Overall, I can recommend Cockett’s as a good location for a walking outing in Hawes.

We have stayed at this excellent hotel on three occasions and now we have friends in Hawes so we stay with them and just eat at Cockett's. Not only is the hotel excellent but the restaurant offers exceptional value and excellent well cooked food.
The chef has been there for many years and cannot be faulted.
We live in the South and marvel at the value offered by this restaurant in terms of food quality, good value wine lists etc.
If you visit North Yorkshire, don't miss the chance to eat at Cockett's but be sure to book as it fills up very quickly due to it's excellent reputation.
