We have stayed at this wonderful country hotel on several occasions. We also had our wedding in 2005 booking the hotel for 3 days for all our guests. The experience just gets better and better. Franco and his team are fabulous attending to every detail. We ate in the restaurant both nights on our recent stay and the food is outstanding.
For a great stay try this country hotel. We think it is the best .

Staying in a nearby cottage we were recommended this place for lunch. We were the only 2 in for lunch which is not a problem at this time of year but you would expect better for the prices. No bread yet side plates on the table, food bland, unseasoned, undressed, unbuttered nor cooked properly. A boat of lumpy gravy served next to the dish add flavour and moisture. Sat far too long with our dirty plates, declined the dessert and opted for the coffee. Staff were getting trained on online booking. Need to train on how to treat guests first.

this was our 3rd stay at Simonstone over the last 15 years so we have seen it change a lot but we keep coming back so it must say something. The location is still great its beautiful walking countryside. Simonstone is a lovely hotel and we always take our dog and it is properly dog friendly. The staff are welcoming and friendly and the superior rooms are very comfortable and all very different with gorgeous period details like big stone fireplaces. the standard room which our teenage children stayed in was basic and no view of any kind except over the kitchen roof and a bit dark and still not cheap. The last time we visited a few years ago the bar was bigger with cosy sofas at the end and a lovely atmosphere. Now however they have got rid of the cosy bit and put a wine vault which looked nice but seemed a bit of a waste of space and the bar area is now a bit cramped with little seating. We ate in the restaurant all 3 nights we were there and though the food was good it wasn't excellent and it was the same menu all three nights we were there which for the standard of hotel and the money we were paying is not comparable to other hotels of the same standard. It also got a bit boring. All in all though still a lovely hotel and we will probably go back but only for 1-2 nights.

Room Tip: go for a superior room to avoid disappointment and to get a view

Stayed one night at Simonstone for a friends wedding and decided to book a room so we could enjoy the evening with out worrying about getting home. The room we had booked included breakfast for £180 and when we arrived the room that was offered was wonderful. Nicly decorated and the bed was huge, i joked to the lady and asked if it was just us in the bed as it could fit a few more. The wedding was great and the food was brilliant. To say we slept well was an understatment and after a shower we headed down from breakfast. the spead was wonderful and offered everything that you could have wanted the cooked was a buffet that you could help yourself to and there was a all sorts of pastires and muffins to tuck into. Well worth the stay and the view over Haws is worth a gaze at...

We were all very excited about having a meal at Simonstone after seeing the excellent reviews, however we found it quite disappointing. I chose the lamb from the carvery and it was extremely fatty, roast potatoes were dry and very hard as was the Yorkshire Pudding. My Husband and brother-in-law both chose the Ribs instead of the carvery and said that although the ribs were tender the sauce tasted as though it had come out of a jar. We also found the service to be quite poor. We had to go to the bar during the meal to get drinks as none of the Waiters came to ask if we would like further drinks - nor did they ask if our food was OK. Once we were seated at our table they just seemed to disappear. Extremely poor value.

Thank you for your review, all feedback is greatly appreciated.
We are very sorry for your disappointment, this is the first complaint we have had regarding our Sunday carvery in the two years our head chef has been with us.
To compensate for your disappoint we would like to offer you a complimentary meal for our carvery. If you would please contact the hotel this can be arranged.

Our daughter was married here 7 years ago and it was a wonderful venue. We have not been back since but decided on a couple of days away & picked Simonstone. We were not disappointed, it was just as wonderful. It's a quiet, relaxing "get away from it all" sort of place.
It is a wonderful old building full of character and in an idyllic setting.
The staff could not be more pleasant and helpful.
The rooms are comfy, clean and luxorious.
The food is great.
All in all a super place

Given the majority of other reviews for Simonstone Hall, I was somewhat surprised and a bit disappointed with a few aspects of my weekend stay. However, firstly the good points. The hotel's in a beautiful location and is a lovel old building with a very nice atmosphere. The staff are superb - friendly, welcoming and very hard working. The bar and brasserie are particularly cosy and comfortable areas in which to enjoy a drink and a meal. There were, however, some downsides. We booked a standard room (No. 18) which, contrary to the blurb on the hotel's website -'As befits a hotel of this quality, the bedrooms are generous in size....' would only have been offered as a single in most other quality hotels these days. It was only wide enough to accommodate a standard double bed rather than the customary queen/king size commonly found in most hotel rooms. Also the bathroom, while generously proportioned, had no shower - again a very exceptional omission these days. On enquiry, I was informed that the other standard rooms were similarly sized. Having eaten dinner in the restaurant on two evenings, I found the food very average - fairly unimaginative starters, dry overcooked meat accompanied by heavy jus and plain steamed vegetables, followed by some rather dense desserts. I can't see myself returning to Simonstone Hall but for anyone planning a stay, I would recommend not booking a standard room and trying the food in the brasserie rather than the restaurant.

Room Tip: Do not book a Standard Room

Simonstonehall, Manager at Simonstone Hall Country House Hotel, responded to this review, 18 October 2012
Thank you for your comments regarding your recent stay at Simonstone Hall.
Unfortunatly our standard rooms are the smallest at the hotel and whilst they are not large rooms these are certainly not tiny. As you can appreciate a country house that has been converted to a hotel will certainly have rooms of various sizes this is reflected by the rates we charge for the different room types.
We are most disappointed that you did not enjoy your food in the restaurant as we are very proud of our kitchen and received mainly positive feedback regarding our menu and quality of the food in both the restaurant and the brasserie.
Please accept my apology and I do hope you visit us again in order that we can make amends for your unfortunate experience.
