“Oh So Close!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 June 2013

A brilliant location, whatever the weather. We have just have just spent 2 nights on a dinner bed and breakfast basis with our friends, including some great walks around the area, directly from the the hotel so you can park your car and you will not need it again until you leave to go home. Close by is a local pub, the Green Dragon Inn, Hardraw, which was only a 1\3rd of a mile away serving good ale including Timothy Taylor's Landlord plus tasty snacks! Suggest you plan this to be at the end of any walking route!

The hotel is so close to being 5 star with it's great location, good food, good service and friendly ambience ................but, in my opinion, the following let it down:-

Our room, room 4, although was a great size, was let down by a very small TV, our shower showed some signs of mould on the grout, additionally, with the sun rising at around 4am in the morning, it would have been great to have blackout linings to the curtains. A very annoying oversized shower accessories rack in the 'not too large' shower cubicle caused the odd expletive from my better half!

I realise that to some people such things are not an issue, but when you are spending over £200 per night, it is the little things that make a difference!

So, in summary, we will definitely be giving Simonstone Hall another try, great location and many goods points....just minor improvements needed!

I don't usually like the staid atmosphere of a country house hotel compared to a decent pub with rooms. However, Simonstone Hall (for a few quid more than the pub B&B) is not like that. The setting is breath-taking if you get the right weather. The staff, a mixture of continental Europeans providing 5* service, and locals who make the experience unique to the area are unsurpassed. Treat yourself, go here, sit outside to admire the view while drinking a local ale, eat the simple but well made food and finally sip a recommended single malt whiskey at the bar while chatting to the locals.

We recently had our wedding here, and it was superb, Emma the wedding planner could not do enough for us and made it an incredibly memorable occasion. Due to the distance all the guests were travelling, we all had a 2 night stay, all of the rooms were lovely, and the food perfect, no complaints from any of our guests, and there were some fussy ones... All agreed that the location and the views are stunning, even when there is a bit of low cloud. We will definitely be back, Simonstone Hall is a very special place for us.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel, the views are amazing.

We have just come back from a 2 night stay at Simonstone Hall. This stay was a competition prize and what a fabulous prize it was.
We stayed in a luxury suite and the prize included evening meals. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, the bed was very comfy and the rooms were clean and well maintained. The food in the evening was excellent with a varied choice. The drinks in the bar were reasonably priced. Breakfast was excellent using good quality local produce . The location was ideal

Thank you all so much for a great stay. Excellent reception from everybody and the food was exceptional.
Chef , believe me , take 5 minutes more and make your own sauces. Those packet sauces you can smell them coming and you make very good food to be smothered and ruined by that stuff.
We´ll be back for sure.

The food was plentiful, well cooked and excellent value. The staff were efficient and friendly, they were also very attentative without being overbearing, I can honestly say the Sunday lunch was one of the best and largest I have eaten. The surroundings were magnificent, what a view! Well worth a visit.
