Visited to check the hotel as a potential wedding venue. The public rooms and bedrooms rooms that have been upgraded are lovely and the whole place has huge potential but at the moment the entrance is at the rear and least attractive part of the building and the reception area and bar aren't very inspiring. Some of the rooms and bathrooms are drab but the relatively new owner and staff are welcoming and helpful and explained the changes planned. We decided to stay for lunch because we were there and hungry but without much expectation. However the food was a surprise - beautifully cooked hake with peas, Savoy cabbage and heritage potatoes, not over salted as with so many places, and nicely presented. The steak and black sheep pie and the chicken breast with mushroom risotto were also well received and all three of us were pleased that we had decided to give the place a chance. While we were eating more people arrived and all the plates of food looked tempting. The views are delightful and the terrace makes the most of them. We will watch the progress of the renovations with interest and definitely return to the restaurant.

Hi there - very many thanks for leaving a review!
I just wanted to check-in and let you know that renovation works on the entrance reception is now underway and is due to be completed within the next few days! - exciting changes and improvements.
Our new menus are also now live and well worth a go when you're next in the area!

3rd visit here for a lunch in the garden terrace while out walking in the Yorkshire Dales.
Great food and good service, nothing is to much trouble!
A must visit and booking advices for evening meals.
Wonderful for a romantic wedding or a special occasion.

Had dinner for two with lovely food, attentive and really good service and a very nice Carignan wine, not cheap at £28, but well worth it.

Can't fault the above and we eat here every time we visit Hawes (twice a year).

The bistro could do with a bit of a revamp - perhaps new tables, a candle/lamp on the tables to give it a bit more ambiance.

The views over the valley from most tables are stunning, but the sunshine does show up the finger marks etc on the windows which could do with a a good clean top to bottom.

Despite these bits, it is still a favourite with us.

Called for a long cold beer after a hard walk. We were made to feel very welcome even though we were dress for the hills. The owner share a interesting conversation with us about the grouse shooting. The view is beautiful from the hotel over the dales.

We visited Simonstone Hall for lunch so we could also experience the fantastic views from the Brasserie and we weren't disappointed.
I have to say the food was fabulous and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
The only downside for me was that I think the hall had seen better days and could possibly do with a touch of redecorating especially the ladies toilets.. not to make it contemporary but to make it feel loved. But would definitely go back as we enjoyed the food so much.
