“Lovely hotel and location”
Reviewed 3 November 2013 via mobile

Stayed here over the summer. It's a beautiful hotel in a stunning location. We booked a conservatory room which was lovely. Only criticism was the bathroom which was very small, considering the cost of the room. However, it certainly didn't spoil our stay in any way. We booked B&B and the breakfast was lovely, service excellent. We didn't try dinner, preferring instead to eat out in Hawes. We had a lovely break here and would recommend the hotel if you are looking to get away from it all for a few days.

Booked a couple of nights in late August for a late family break. Never been to the dales before and was amazed with the beauty of the countryside, lovely walks from the hotel, waterfalls, fells, rivers etc all on the doorstep. Bedroom on the front of the hotel was lovely although the room on the side was a little lack lustre but I understand that refurbishment to rooms is planned. Great welcome from staff, breakfast great, ate in one evening and was fine, went into Hawes the following night and very glad we booked. Very pleasant stay enjoyed by all of us, our 17 & 19 year old sons and 2 dogs all appreciated a lovely last minute break in a beautiful spot.

Room Tip: try and get a room overlooking the front, lovely views.

A welcoming hotel. This is the sort of hotel where you sit in the bar or lounge before and after dinner and chat to other guests. Of those we spoke to we were the only ones on a first visit, this really says it all.
Our bedroom in the Coach House was very comfortable although only a view over a courtyard but as we spent few daylight hours there it did not worry us. Breakfast (no self service buffet, all courses were waitress service) and dinner were excellent as was the waitress service.
We found this hotel on Trip Advisor so we can only say thank you Trip Advisor.

Gorgeous views from this delightful hotel with local walks & fishing all close at hand. A very pet friendly hotel too. We found the staff to be particularly helpful and friendly - especially Lynn, Martin, Ruby, Margaret, and in fact ALL the dining staff were absolutely lovely with nothing too much trouble at all. Being an old house with separate coach house accommodation, the rooms do of course vary considerably & my advice would be to check out your room before booking in. Don't get me wrong, there are some fabulous rooms and some with fabulous views, but there are a few that need some attention and I understand the hotel have plans to deal with these. The garden rooms (which have a small conservatory) are excellent for those guests staying with pets as they have direct access outdoors. We returned twice this summer and hope to make another visit soon.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms that are due for renovation & refurbishment - ask at time of booking and/or check ou...

The location overlooking Wensleydale is superb. The bedrooms are bright, warm and comfortable and the shower in the conservatory bedroom was one of the best I have ever used in a hotel. ALL the staff are friendly, helpful, local and provide excellent service. The food, especially breakfast, is great Yorkshire fare. The public rooms are warm and welcoming and the barman knows how to serve a drink. Last but very much not least, this is a very dog friendly hotel and our 18 month old Airedale loved it just as much as his predecessors! This family run hotel has real character and charm and shows that the owners know their business and do a great job - long may this continue!

Room Tip: Conservatory bedrooms on the ground floor open directly onto the garden and so are perfect for dog o...

We stopped in for one night with our two children and dog to break the journey from Scotland to London. The hotel is a very attractive traditional home with lovely well-maintained gardens and enjoys beautiful views over Hawes. We received a warm welcome and our large courtyard room was perfect for all of us. We chose not to eat in the hotel as it is a set menu and therefore not very attractive for the children. Breakfast was good though and Hawes, only a few minutes away, is a lovey market town with lots of dog-friendly pubs and restaurant. I would definitely recommend the hotel and we felt it was very good value for money.

Thank you for your review. We are very glad that you enjoyed your stay! Just a quick note with regard to the menu- we are hoping to introduce a two course option into our menu soon and, although we can easily cater for children as our chefs are happy to cook special dishes for them, we may possibly introduce a childs menu also. We have no plans for an a la carte menu, but feel that more options will make our current menu more attractive to a wider range of people. We hope you agree! Thanks again and we hope to see you back at Stone House soon...

I stopped the night here on the last night of my little road trip,

It is in a excellent location and has some brilliant stunning views. The staff are very friendly and the food is excellent.

It's has large resturant, which do brilliant food and a nice little bar.

I recommend sitting by the real fire with a coffee after diner very relaxing

The room was good and comfy and I had a excellent nights sleep.

The breakfast was excellent and really filling had to go back to my room for a nap afterwards as I was that full

I also recommend that if you have time to do the little walk around the hotel to the falls nearby very nice views and worth a visit.
