“Great little camp site in an excellent location”
Reviewed 9 June 2013

We received a warm and friendly welcome from the owners. The site is fairly basic but so are the prices. The location is idyllic with stunning views and only a 15 minute walk through a field on a paved path into Hawes. Although the showers and toilets are fairly basic, they are perfectly adequate and clean. Showers and hairdryers cost 20p and there was plenty of hot water. It can be breezy being set on a hillside so take a wind break. The site was very quiet and peaceful with the only noise coming from the lambs and birds. There are plenty of places to eat in Hawes and we can recommend The White Hart. Unfortunately, Herriot's Cafe was closed so we went to the Bay Tree Cafe. It is nothing special inside but the home made cakes and scones were delicious, as was the home made lemon curd. The Wensleydale Creamery is worth a visit and there are plenty of local walks. We walked to Hardraw Force and the scenery was breathtaking. We would definitely go back to Bainbridge Ings.

We chose this site as we wanted to meet up with camping friends. Amenities were reminiscent of caravan sites in the fifties. We were told to camp on a pitch which had been extensively used and consequently had large mud patches where grass had been worn away. Motorhomes are given preference over caravans for the gravel hard standing that exists. This is an unsheltered site and so when the rain lashes and the wind blows one really feels it!

Bainbridge Ings was recommended to us by a local, thus proving that you really cannot beat word of mouth. Although for the five days that we stayed there it rained for four of them, it did not dampen our spirits at all. The welcome from the owners was lovely and right from the off we were made to feel important. We stayed in our own tent, and as the week progressed, the campsite gradually got busier. The wash facilities are pretty good, paid by a meter. There are lots of walks in the vacinity and Hawes proved to be a lovely village in the Yorkshire Dales. There are good pubs to try, various takeaways, a tasty canteen and of course the famous Wensleydale Creamery. For the tourist, there is also the National Park Visitor Centre. For those with a car, there's lots more to do in the surrounding areas as well. Bainbridge Ings was a great choice for keen campers. A decent location and friendly staff. Recommended!

My husband and I were only occasional campers in our younger years but now regularly visit Bainbridge Ings for additional holidays, we cannot find a site that suits us more than this. O.K. it doesn't have a swimming pool, club house etc., but this is just perfect, peace and quiet where you can enjoy the beautiful countryside. The owners are such friendly, honest and helpful people, nothing is too much trouble and everything is maintained to a high standard. They could cash in on getting very many more tents on the middle of the field but they are not greedy and keep this for the kids to play on and not detract from the amazing views all around. Also, if you get your phone topped up or freezer block frozen all that is asked for is a donation to the air ambulance fund. The shower and toilet blocks are always clean and have been renovated recently. There is always loads of hot water for washing up and we have many a time dried off wet weather gear in the washing room. There are two reasonably priced washing machines and a spin drier. Location is fabulous, fellside views and just a little walk outside of Hawes where there is a wide choice of eating and drinking establishments. The "sit in" fish and chip shop is a must. Can't recommend more highly....shhhhh! really should keep this a secret!

Can’t say what it would be like here for camping or in a touring caravan but we booked a week in one of their two static caravans. On arrival we were shown to our caravan and on entering we were tempted to leave straight away. Everything about it screamed budget, shabby and cramped. We decided to make the most of it and unpacked. We found the bed just as uncomfortable as it looked with only about a foot either side so we had to slide down the side to get in. The next day we both woke with backache and cold as it was very damp. The shower room was rather small and the shower cubicle had mould in several places. We tried to light the gas fire but failed and eventually had to get help, it continued to be a problem every time. The tiny T.V. had a snowy picture and just 5 channels. The website says one caravan is one year old and the other 4, perhaps 4 years on this site but it felt more like 20 years old. After 4 nights we packed up and left. We paid £250 to stay here but it wasn’t worth £25. My advice is pay a little more for a B&b in Hawes and avoid the very uphill treck to this site.

Visited on the first weekend in August and had plenty of choice to pitch the tent. Very easy 15 mins stroll into the town. Lots of great walks to be had and the countryside was just gorgeous. the shower and toilet facilities were fine and clean. Went to the Hardraw Force waterfall which was a good trek. £14 a night is pretty decent price to pay. We will certainly go back.
