We spent one night at Ebor House on our way south from Scotland in early April, hoping to get a quick preview of the Buttertubs Pass, but time constraints prevented that. However we so taken with the spectacular Dales that we will certainly be back for a longer stay, and we wouldn't look further than Ebor House for a base to explore the area. It is probably not the cheapest place in town, but the old adage applies: you get what you pay for. The immaculate and spacious rooms are furnished in a bright modern style, with excellent bathroom fittings and water pressure- plumbing is a particular obsession of mine. Janie and Stuart are chatty and cheerful hosts, with a fund of local lore and information to share. The off-street parking is a bonus, though I wouldn't want to manoeuvre a larger vehicle into it.

Hawes is a very picturesque town, familiar to anyone who watched the much-loved James Herriot TV series. It was a comfortable walk to the White Hart Inn where we had an excellent dinner. An equally good breakfast the next morning was enlivened by chatting with other guests, and we were on our way with regrets that it was so short a stay.

Room Tip: Rooms towards the back offer a stunning view of the fells.

There are many positives about this place (as of course there should be at the price) - the rooms are clean and warm, and decorated immaculately and with good taste, the bathroom fittings are modern and of good quality, the breakfast is decent. It is quite near to the village centre. It is not the owners' fault that it is difficult/impossible to get anything to eat in the village after 8.30. On the downside.... if you have a bad back, make sure you are not given the top floor front room - the mattress sags badly (I think it may be memory-foam, and it remembers the previous guest being an elephant). The owners appear warm and welcoming, but in that American-style way that is actually very bossy and inflexible - check-in is early (at 6pm you may still want to be in the fells), breakfast late (at 8.30am ditto), and I hope you don't have any problem with the wifi, as they will think it's the fault of your phone.

Room Tip: Avoid the front top floor room until they change the mattress.

We stayed just one night on our way through Hawes on the Pennine Way. Janie and Stuart are very friendly and really make you feel welcome - even if you are covered in mud. The house is very tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. The beds are comfortable and the shower wonderful. Can you ask for more? Yes - the excellent breakfast you get which sets you up for an another day of walking!

We stayed for 5 nights in a very comfortable and beautifully presented property. The hosts were most hospitable, helpful and always willing to please. The town of Hawes is centrally located to allow for easy day trips to surrounding areas.

We have stayed at Ebor twice and we also sent our son and his girlfriend there as his 21st birthday present! Janie and Stewart are extremely friendly and nothing is too much trouble! Stewarts breakfasts are yummy too! It is immaculately clean and beds are very comfortable.
The pubs in the village are all lovely and friendly and its a great base to explore the lovely villages nearby. We will definately return for a third time.

Room Tip: All the rooms are excellent
