just stopped for a meal last Sunday- the welcome was great and the food was obviously made on the premises and of the highest quality. What particularly impressed was the cleanliness not just of the t room but alos the toilet. Despite my wife and I being in our muddy walking gear we were made most welcome and certainly will return again. The soups are tasty, hot and plentiful- the cauliflower and crispy bacon was a delight- the t shop is tucked out of the way so is a hidden gem but if you want to get away form the main drag a 1 minute walk will bring you to this oasis.

We originally booked this b&b over the phone in advance.

When we arrived, we were shown to the room which had the oddest lock we've come across! The shower had clearly not been cleaned thoroughly enough as there were countless hairs still in. The shower lacked any power and was very weak. There were a couple of stains on the pillow which we discarded off the bed and the bed was HORRIBLY creaky - we perhaps should have asked for another room, but it seemed there was an event or something to which others were occupying those rooms. The idea of wine, water or beer for an additional price at reception within the room to compliment the teas/coffees was a good idea.

It was good that the hotel had wi-fi, but to have to pay £8.50 for the day or £3.50 an hour for it where the signal was particularly poor!

The breakfast was the only real plus to it with a decent. A real disappointment to which we longed to go to our next b&b in Harrogate which was cheaper and far more superior in quality.

Herriots Hotel in Hawes is a lovely little B&B, with a small cafe & art gallery downstairs. Our room was on the top floor & it was great to be able to lie in our very comfy bed in the morning admiring the fabulous views of the North Yorkshire countryside. The proprietors (Andrea & Richard) were really nice and couldn't do enough for us. And the breakfast - freshly cooked to order - was fantastic. I am sure we will visit again.

Lovely B & B - we normally stay in pubs but this doesnt have the normal B&B feel of staying in somebody elses house about it. Only slight critisism was the tiny en-suite and the electric loo that was a bit noisy - also the rather disconcerting mable effect in the ensuite. Best breakfast we had in Yorkshire and freshly cooked. Very hospitable hosts.

We found this B&B to be very welcoming and practical. Our room was spacious - even though the bathroom was tiny and the walls were covered in a strange plastic onyx material - and we had a really great night's sleep here, followed by a lovely breakfast. Great for walkers.

An absolute diamond! The owners, Richard and his partner Andrea, are delightful hosts/owners. They were very helpful when making my booking, no fuss, no drama and NOT from the Basil Fawlty school of public relations and customer service, no, no, no! I was booked into one of their double rooms, this one situated on the first floor (no lift) on the corner, mega tall windows on 2 walls overlooking the street, ideal for watching the town during the day and at night, the double glazed windows muffled the sound of traffic at night/morning. (If you’re a frequent visitor or resident of Hawes, you’ll know that the “sound of traffic” is more of a joke- the morning traffic is that of tractors, land rovers, milk trucks, and sheep trailers). The room was clean and spacious, the en-suite had the toilet and a roomy bath tub with electric shower, lovely bath amenities, and the sink is inside the bedroom. The bed was super comfy with 4 big down pillows and a queen size down duvet, all white, clean and soft (NO smell of bleach detected, thank you!) Nice little flat screen wall-mounted TV and coffee/tea tray. The made-to-order breakfast was hot, fresh and filling, served in the cozy dining area, again, very clean. As the hotel is all pluses, there are a few caveats to be aware of. There is no lift and the staircase is “vintage.” There is no hotel parking although there are 2 spaces in the front on the narrow street, or you have to park on the main square just up the road. Enjoy Your Stay!

We stayed at Herriots in September to do the Herriots Way walking package they offer. How they do the package for that price is beyond me, it is brilliant,. 5 nights B&B, packed lunch and flask filling for the 4 walking days, transport back and forwards each day, and a fantastic 3 course meal on the Monday night. Richard, Andrea and family cannot do enough for you, breakfast is all local produce cooked to order, and the same with the packed lunch. The accomodation is spotless and comfortable.
The walking package is well worth a try especially if you haven't done multi day walking before, having a base and the knowledge you will get picked up each day takes a lot of the pressure off you.
