Despite the food being of a good standard, the staff were rude, unhelpful and absolutely the reason why we will not return, nor recommend this cafe. The waiter on duty was overly fussy and took to interjecting over the slightest 'issue'. It became quite clear that he was more concerned with explaining what he could not do for the stream of customers he turned away during the time we wasted in the place rather than what he was willing to do by way of providing a service.

Would not recommend, there are plenty of other places in Hawes who will provide a proper Yorkshire Welcome. Don't bother.

O Dear! where do we start with a review like this? Maybe the CCTV footage shows the actual behaviour of some of this group of 10 including 1 abusive 'parent' yesterday.
Enough said!
We're glad you will not be returning because it saves us turning you away.

On a wet, winters Saturday afternoon, anywhere which welcomes me and my dog is a going to be bonus. However, this place is a destination cafe such is the service, the quality of the food, the cleanliness and the wonderful art decorating the cafe.

I was introduced -at the gentle insistence of the owner- to try the fruit cake and Wensleydale cheese. A taste sensation to the uninitiated.

We returned the next day for lunch where we tried their sandwiches of the day; two different Paninis with salad. Both were excellent and very reasonably priced.

An excellent establishment, the only problem is trying to get a seat as its often so busy!

It was good to see Hawes looking so much like Itself, after my being away for quite a while. Everything was buzzing and so much to reconnect with. The market and the bookshop were pretty much top of my list, having bought so many in the time we lived close by.
I never had the time to have a cup of tea, then, but have made up since!
Herriot's Kitchen was a good place to sit and slip into a stream of recollections. Good coffee, a pleasant ambience and friendly staff. And, even though I was in a rosy glow (what with one thing and another) I think it's going to stay that way!

The art on display is great to look at whilst enjoying a delicious cream tea. Yummy home made scones plus a selection of other niceties makes this place a great little cafe.

We had tea and cake here after a few hours walking the fells. We thought the name was a bit corny but we were pleasantly surprised inside - lovely artwork on the walls together with delicious cake and welcoming service. A good choice for a light lunch, morning cake and coffee or afternoon tea.
