We visited Hawes today as we had stayed at the Herriots over 25 years ago before we got married. Today it was cold and wet but we received a warm welcome and opted for soup and a sandwich. We had a great conversation with the owner who told us how he and his wife ended up in Hawes. The food was tasty, fresh and reasonably priced. The cafe area was very clean so i'm glad we weren't muddy!

Title says it all. Owners are very friendly, the scones, tea and hot chocolate were very good. The place is spotless and you can admire the artwork on the walls. They offered to fill up my bike bottle before I'd even thought to ask. Would definitely return.

We visited herriots cafe earlier this week, which was where we enjoyed a delicious slice of cake and a splendid cup of yorkshire tea after a wet and windy walk along the dales. The service and the food was very up to standard, however one thing that did spoil our visit was the behaviour of a large group of people sitting in the other dining area to us. There were 2 rude children in particular who distubed us while we were enjoying our afternoon snack. I overheard the owner, who seemed very calm and aware of the situation, asking the people politely if they could control the behaviour of the children. We then heard one of the men agressivly speaking to the owner that he thought the children were doing nothing wrong. If our children were to behave like that in public i would be very ashamed and embarressed of the situation and i would never let it happen. Overall we would really reccommend herriots cafe, we would definately return again.

First impressions were of a clean and bright place to eat. We ordered cheese scones and the man serving explained that they had started doing them with a slice of Wensleydale cheese and apricot chutney. Our drinks arrived with a little biscuit on the side. Scones were warm and we enjoyed them. Recommend the cheese and chutney element!

The service was friendly - discussion on custom of eating cheese with Christmas cake and price was reasonable. This review would have ended here but for the fact that when we left and went into the chemist further up the hill the man from Herriots arrived slightly out of breath and clutching my husband's glasses. Can't do more than that.

Despite the food being of a good standard, the staff were rude, unhelpful and absolutely the reason why we will not return, nor recommend this cafe. The waiter on duty was overly fussy and took to interjecting over the slightest 'issue'. It became quite clear that he was more concerned with explaining what he could not do for the stream of customers he turned away during the time we wasted in the place rather than what he was willing to do by way of providing a service.

Would not recommend, there are plenty of other places in Hawes who will provide a proper Yorkshire Welcome. Don't bother.

O Dear! where do we start with a review like this? Maybe the CCTV footage shows the actual behaviour of some of this group of 10 including 1 abusive 'parent' yesterday.
Enough said!
We're glad you will not be returning because it saves us turning you away.
