A small well run family hotel. It is clean and has character as it is a former vicarage. Food is excellent - although a menu for breakfast would be a bonus so that options were more obvious. Service is good and friendly, although waiting staff lacked experience.
Good for touring east Yorkshire as the village where the hotel mis set (Hunmanby) is very central for Whitby, Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington.

We had a short but very pleasant stay.

If I want 5 star luxury and 5 star staff waiting on my every whim - then I will go to a 5 star hotel. This is a quiet, family run hotel in a small friendly village where you are made to feel welcome. It is also a good base for visiting the surrounding area. We were there on a golf trip and there is no shortage of good courses within striking distance.
The hotel : The rooms vary in size and amenities as you would expect in a property like this (a former vicarage), for example there is one attic room up steep stairs which would not suit some visitors. If you tell the owners what you require in advance I am sure they will do their level best to accomodate you.
The food: This couple are passionate about the quality of the food they provide and it shows. The proprietor made it clear to our party that the standard menu could be added to if he was given time to go and source the ingredients and on the third morning of our stay when we requested alternative dishes for that evening he did not let us down.

We enjoyed a very characterful room with a four poster and we particularly appreciated the quiet and restful night's sleep. The food was good too, and we had no problems with the service. We paid £90 for a double room inc breakfast. If you want a bath, then request that when you book... some rooms have baths.

This Hotel is a little Gem. We happened upon it by accident and were made very welcome by the owners. It is family run and very cosy and friendly. The food is of a very high standard and we were made to feel like one of the family staying in their home and not as guests in a faceless hotel. The rooms are extermely clean and the standard of service was in keeping with the family atmosphere. Breakfast was at our leisure and cooked to order and although we asked for a variety of different items on each plate this was acccommodated without problems. We were encouraged to help ourselves to the cereals and juice and in as large a quantity as we required. I would not hesitate to recommend this Hotel to all of my friends. An excellent weekend.

The most positive aspect of our stay at the Wrangham House Hotel was the food, the chef is indeed talented unfortunately his staff let him down badly. Dinner was served very unprofessionally and there was a lack of attention to detail. Apart from food being put in front of us and plates removed there was no service. Our wine arrived after our starter cousre was finished and was then placed out of easy reach. No one revisited the table to pour wine once the bottle was opened however it has to be said the food compensated. Sadly at breakfast the next morning service was even less evident. Toast arrived immediately but tea had to be re-requested after 15 minutes, after 30 minutes our cooked breakfast had not appeared and the waitress was asked where it was, 10 minutes later we gave up and left the breakfast room.
It is not a big hotel nor particularly busy at breakfast yet we were not the only guests that had to chase their food.
On leaving and paying the bill the owner/chef was not even aware that we had not had been served breakfast and yet he was cooking!
I would not go back to this Hotel nor recommend it.
