Got married at this hotel. Small wedding - only 25 of us in total - got married in the restaurant area with reception in conservatory. Good points - on the day staff were very good, service was excellent, superb surroundings, food very good, rooms beautiful and clean. Weak points - rooms expensive with mimimal reduction in rate even though they were guaranteed to sell 10 of the 14 rooms; handover between events organiser and staff on the day poor leading to some major stress the day before the wedding for the bride and groom (did pick this up with the manager the next day who was courteous and noted complaint); provided our own wine but corkage charge and champagne price extortionate.

Further to our conversation following your stay, thank you for posting this review and for your kind comments. Please be assured that your comments regarding room and corkage rates have been taken on board but i would mention that, as with any business, we do know the margins that we need achieve in order to maintain our levels of quality as well as staying in business. I went on a work do and had one overnight stay, it was absolutely fabulous, the food was lovely as were the restaurant staff. We were welcomed by a very pleasant young lady who showed us to our beautiful room which was extremely clean including the bathroom.
I would definately recommend this hotel and if ever in Yarm again I would stay here.

We stayed here for a weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. The hotel has a very peaceful atmosphere, set in beautiful grounds.
You feel as if you are a house guest in a large mansion and are treated like one. (I have never come across such excellent staff.) It used to be Kirklevington Hall and is a listed building. There is a small entrance hall with a desk as a reception area and a large open fire and settee. The bar is like a library, again with an open fire and extremely comforable settees. It opens onto a large comfortable lounge. Both areas can become busy at night because the restaurant is open to non guests and is very popular as the food is good but we had the whole area to ourselves on arrival and read the papers is peace.
There are two standards of room-deluxe and superior. Having stayed in one of both now, as it was a return visit, I am hard pressed to find the difference except the price. On paying the bill I asked which room they would recommend and was shown a selection as it was a quiet Monday morning. We stayed in 15 last time which is a cheaper room. Along with 16 and 17 it is on the ground floor on the corridor leading from the dining room to the kitchen and was noisy in the morning. Avoid 17 as it right next door to the kitchen. 18 (deluxe) is further along the corridor, round a corner away from the kitchen and is large with a king size bed and lovely sitting area with a settee. This time we were in 7 (deluxe) which was very nice but I would go for 6 (deluxe) which is also used as the bridal suite as it has a four poster and is huge .8 (deluxe) is also large with a kingsize bed with a small step up and a large sitting area with a settee and two armchairs. 12A (deluxe) is shown in the brochure and is large with a double jacuzzi. 12(deluxe) is rather smaller and darkly decorated with a separate small sitting area-give it a miss. When booking ask for a room on the first floor. All the rooms are individually decorated and furnished to a high standard and overlook the grounds as the car park is set a short walk away from the house though there is ample pick up area at the front door.
I phoned to make sure there was no wedding being held in the hotel as we wanted a quiet time. There is a separate Garden Suite and Courtyard Suite for weddings and there was one on but it did not affect us. The dining room is divided into two areas, the original room opening out onto a conservatory (shown in the brochure We preferred to eat in the conservatory area (shown in the brochure). The food is good and we were spolt for choice at breakfast which is served at the table. This was a most enjoyable stay and we look forward to a return visit in the not too distant future.

Thank you very much for such a detailed review and for your kind comments. As all our rooms are individually decorated and have different sizes as well as aspects ("Judges" is also known as "Kirklevington Hall") a lot of the time it comes down to personal taste. We look forward to welcoming you back to Judges in the near future. Kind regards, Tim Howard, Manager

Went for a big family wedding and stayed over. Enjoyed the 'do' and my room had some nice little touches: sherry, boardgames etc. VERY expensive -- no make that exorbitant -- bar prices and poor service in the restaurant the following morning. Would stay again but only if I wasn't paying

Thank you for your positive comments and I was sorry that you felt that the discounted wedding rate was "exorbitant" and that our bar prices were very expensive. We use 50ml measures in the house and our function suite with its wedding garden, fish ponds, gazebo, indoor and outdoor seating areas is not a pub with pub prices). It would have been very helpful to know why you felt service at breakfast had been poor as I value hugely any constructive criticism. Kind regards, Tim Howard, Manager

My boyfriend took me here as a surprise for Valentines day last year. Apart from being swept off my feet by the romance the hotel blew me away too. The room we had was one of the superior rooms. It had the biggest (sleigh) bed I've ever seen and everything about it was luxurious. As it was the middle of winter we did have a small problem with the water when the hotel's pipes froze, but this problem was sorted out asap and didn't cause any inconvenience. Additionally, the food wasn't as wonderful as it usually is. We were having the Valentine's set menu and although there were seven courses, they were rather little portions. It was all very tasty, but it was made less special by the fact that there were lots and lots of other couples having the same food in the same place at the same time. I can't comment myself as I haven't tried it yet, but apparently the food is normally out of this world. Will be trying it when I get the chance.

We did have breakfast delivered to our room in the morning (at no extra cost). This was superb. Best breakfast I've ever had!

Overall, the whole stay was a wonderfully memorable experience. The hotel is beautiful - beautiful surroundings, huge rooms with breathtaking views, all the trimmings. Earns much more than its three stars.
