Nice place but an absolute rip off at the bar. £4.40 for a pint of Tetleys. Scandalous taking advantage of a captive audience ! It's a popular place for a wedding reception and weddings are expensive enough without taking advantage of the guests.

My wife and I stayed here 3rd - 6th August 2014. This was our second visit having previously stayed here with our daughter in 2013 and thoroughly enjoying the whole experience.

Starting with the outside setting, this is fantastic. The hotel is set in wonderfully maintained grounds that afford guests lovely long walks through woodland, over streams and bridges. With a nice leisurely walk of about 30-40minutes, you can also head into Yarm, where there is plenty to do both day and night.

We stayed in room number 15 on the ground floor, that had lovely views into the garden. The room is very well furnished, light and very welcoming. A large and spacious walk-in shower and a bath with a built in TV, not that we had time to watch TV, but very nice. The bed was comfortable and the room temperature control easy to use.
We had a really nice surprise when walking into the room; a complimentary bottle of bubbly sitting there...no special occasion, just the management's welcome gift. It's these little things that bring guests back over and over again.

The staff in Judges are spot-on. They are attentive, welcoming and very polite. A good team, with obvious good management.

My wife had a light snack on day one, a burger with some chips. This was served hot, nicely presented and she thoroughly enjoyed it. Breakfast choice is varied with fresh fruit, cereal, yogurts or full English. Cooked food was served hot, and you can order additional breakfast foods to be cooked from fresh also.

The night porter is absolutely fantastic. He is engaging and nothing is too much trouble. Special thanks to him.

A definite recommendation from us for this hotel; we will be returning very soon.

Room Tip: Only stayed in ground floor and this was excellent. Would probably sample upper floors at next stay to increase an already lovely view.

Our nephew and his new wife held their wedding reception in the Courtyard Suite.

I have never visited this establishment before, principally because I consider such places to be typically overpriced, stuffy and pretentious.

The hotel building itself is beautiful and impressive, as are the surrounding grounds. It is but a short walk from the car park to the Courtyard Suit.

On entering the Courtyard Suit one was invited to partake of a complementary beverage, then one is struck by the ambiance of the place, a cozy little bar and seating area with luxurious chairs and sofas. The courtyard itself is a grassed area with I think a large Connect Four game and Quoits. There is a small fishpond and a covered seating area with Grape vines above ones head, very nice indeed. A great place for photographs, for children to play and others to relax and talk. Oh, I nearly forgot the aperitifs, delicious and generously distributed by smiling, friendly staff.

The dining room was superbly decorated and laid out. Plenty of room at the tables for guests to eat in comfort and room enough to walk between the tables.

Guests were invited to pre order their three course meals. I found the food beyond criticism, for me the meal was cooked to perfection and waiting staff were attentive and professional.

The dining room was cleared for the evening disco and one of the guests provided some live entertainment with an acoustic guitar. A delicious bar b q was served later in the evening.

In short our experience at Judges was fantastic, I heartily recommend the place. If anyone reading this review is considering this establishment for a wedding reception then I feel sure that they and their guests will be delighted with the product.

Brilliant and thank you for your kind words - I too dislike businesses that seem to feel they are doing you a favour by letting you spend your money with them. Yes, it's absolutely great to be rated as one of the best hotels and restaurants in the UK but for me if anyone at Judges starts to get big-headed about this then they are simply taken round the back of the bike-shed. I am genuinely pleased that we have helped, in some small way, to dispel this perception. Kindest regards, Tim Howard GM 13/8/14

I stayed here for a business trip. Let's start with the only minor downside... the bed could be considered oldfashioned... But that's all. The room was spacious and clean. Funny twist, there was a goldfish in a bowl with a little note, asking to take care of him... which I did. The note also encouraged me to have a little chat with the fish, which I didn't (only after thourough consideration). The surroundings are very peacefull and quiet. Breakfast was wonderfull and served with a view on the garden.

We held our daughter and new son-in-laws wedding in the Courtyard Suite at Judges and could not have asked for a more perfect location. The venue is amazing and all of our guests commented on how lovely the Courtyard Suite, the hotel, and the grounds were.
The day was perfect and out guests commented on how relaxed the day was. The food for the main meal was fantastic and we opted for the buffet for the evening which was also lovely.
The staff were very friendly and very professional ensuring that the day went without fault. It was a lovely day that all of our guests will remember for a long time. The whole day ran very smoothly. I will certainly recommend Judges for a wedding venue.
Thank you Judges for making our daughter and son-in-laws day extra special.
