Visited on Friday 17th January (non market day) for lunch & this must have been the only busy place in the town! A truly wonderful friendly welcoming atmosphere, especially considering how quiet the town was (it is January & only to be expected!)
Homemade mushroom soup to start, served with a cute little ramekin of butter & plenty warm bread. Couldn't be faulted, clearly homemade as was full of mushroom chunks, served hot (making a lovely change from the usual warm soup from elsewhere!) A lovely starter.
Followed by homemade ham cheese & tomato quiche & salad - a very generous serving as advertised, quiche filling soft & fluffy with freshly melted cheese & sliced tomato topping & crisp pastry base (clearly freshly made that day, as I was advised when ordering) & a "side salad" to die for! Side salad was an understatement! Half a plate of generously served fresh mixed leaf salad, complete with fresh tomatoes, cucumber, clearly homemade coleslaw & crisps on the side - more than can be expected from just a "tearoom"!
I also sampled both their tea & coffee - a traditionally served pot of Taylors breakfast tea, in beautiful blue & white china, followed by a cafetierre of Taylors Cafe Imperial, a completely new coffee to me, but sold to me by the waitress (the owners mother!) & exactly as described! Staff that know their food & drinks, beats a clueless kid any day!
Too full for cake, but a fabulous selection to choose from! All displayed in glass cake stands & all a beautiful selection of home baking - the W.I would be proud! I'll definitely be back to sample the cakes with friends!
A lovely visit & all at a bargain price! Prices very middle of the row for exceptional quality! Highly advise a visit, expect a tearoom & be pleasantly surprised when you receive alot more! Miniature restaurant standards!
Many thanks to all at China Blue!
