March Cottage and Knaresborough were everything we were hoping for, and more. The cottage was wonderfully clean and had all we needed. The town was beautiful with lovely gardens and people. The location of the cottage was perfect for getting around on foot, and close to the rail station for easy access for further exploration. As a photographer, there was plenty to keep me busy. I look forward to returning one day....the trip from Toronto was well worth it. Thank you to Jackie and all the great people of Knaresborough for making our stay such a pleasurable experience.

“Quite, comfortable and clean cottage in beautiful Knaresborough”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2014 for a stay in May 2014

We had a great stay in this cottage. It's well located and you can easily see the surrounding area with this as your base. Lots of nice pubs and restaurants around. It was quiet at night and Jackie was very accommodating.

Would definitely recommend.

“A real find!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 May 2014 for a stay in May 2014

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in March Cottage. The cottage is very comfortable, clean and warm with all facilites provided. The layout makes maximum use of the space available and it is more spacious than the pictures suggest. There is plenty of storage space, especially in the bedrooms.

Steep stairs mean that the cottage would not be suitable for anyone with mobility problems but for all others of any age there would be no problem.

The location is perfect for a holiday in the Yorkshire Dales and for exploring Harrogate, the city of York, and the magnificent country houses of Harewood House and Castle Howard (plus many more). There is no permanent parking space at the cottage but we were provided with a permit to park at the Mother Shipton Inn which is only a minute's walk away.
To visit York and Harrogate avoid the traffic and parking problems and take the train but buy your ticket on the train and ask or a Duo Ticket. For couples this gives you one off-peak return at full price and a second at half price - York return for two: £11.10 and Harrogate £4.50. It is half an hour to York and just 8 minutes to Harrogate.

We loved March Cottage and hope to return soon.

Thank you for your positive review its good to hear that you made use of the excellent train links from Knaresborough I'm sure it made your break more relaxing, city parking can be a nightmare at the best of times and you can have a nice bottle of wine with lunch or dinner if you take the train. Knaresborough and the surrounding area have many beautiful stately homes with amazing gardens and I hope to see you return to explore the ones you missed. Regards Jackie D

“A dandy cottage in a great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 May 2014 for a stay in May 2014

A dandy terraced cottage, slim but tall, well renovated with modern amenities. We had a lovely week in March Cottage, exploring Knaresborough, with its many pleasant surprises, and Harrogate, which has much of interest. The cottage is well situated on Waterside - a stone’s throw from an antiques shop, Old Mother’s Shipton’s Pub, and lovely riverside walks in both directions.

The cottage is welcoming and perfect for two (with more, the neat lounge-diner might be a squeeze), with two spacious bedrooms – the smaller in the eaves, wonderfully bright with two large velux windows (don’t worry they have black-out blinds). Leave a window ajar and you’ll wake to birdsong.

A careful mix of traditional and modern furniture creates a pleasing ambience, although to us an old-fashioned drop-leaf table would be preferable. If AV equipment is important to you, March Cottage seems well equipped, with a flatscreen TV and music player in the living room, another TV/DVD player (?) in the top bedroom, and radios in both bedrooms.

The airy kitchen, with modern ‘stable’ door, is unusually well-equipped for a holiday cottage – including cafetiere, garlic press, ice cubes – and the Bosch washing machine was a boon. The only downside was insufficient work surface space for proper cooking.

Information about the cottage and a box of leaflets about local attractions etc was much appreciated (we’ve added to them!) Jackie was very friendly and helpful, even though we were late and got lost. Milk and teabags etc on arrival was a kind thought and flowers and plants were lovely!

If there is room for improvement it would be to the mattresses and bedding which, although apparently new, we found uncomfortable, interrupting sleep and causing stiff backs. Added to which, synthetic duvets and pillows make you realize the power of down and feather for a good night’s sleep!

Of course this, as with all the above, is a matter of personal preference and individual experience. Overall, we had a lovely time and would definitely recommend March Cottage.

“Gem of a cottage in a delightful setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 April 2014 for a stay in April 2014

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at March Cottage. The cottage has been refurbished and equipped to a very high standard. It' is very clean and comfortable, a real home from home. We were particularly impressed by the thoughtful extras - tea, coffee, flowers and even Easter eggs for the kids. Jackie is a wonderful host and made us feel very welcome. The cottage is in a lovely location just a short stroll from the delightful riverside. We would definitely recommend March cottage and hope that we will be able to return there again soon.

“Perfect Facilities with 1st Class Standards”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 April 2014 for a stay in April 2014

The property feels welcoming and homely. Jackie, the owner, is friendly, helpful, caring and efficient. The cottage has been renovated to a very high standard of build quality. It is spotlessly clean and has everything you could possibly need to make your stay comfortable and worry free. A minor problem occurred with the heating, but that was put right immediately and effectively. It is a credit to Jackie that she looks after her guests so well. Things can and do go wrong - that's not important. What counts is how problems are dealt with. Jackie passed with flying colours!!
We will definitely be going back to this delightful cottage. We'll will need to book early though. It will get very busy, once it has been experienced by more guests. They will be recommending it to others!!!
We came up to enjoy the superb local fly fishing waters. There's even a shed in the courtyard to dry out our waders. In summary - great fishing, great area, great cottage and great owner. - Well Done and Thank You Jackie - we'll be back.!!
