We had a thoroughly lovely weekend visiting our children and grandchildren, the hotel topped it all.The room was clean, comfortable and very pleasantly decorated. The fridge, kettle etc; were really nice and there were books ,magazines and even quirky games for us to try.We will definately visit Denise again.

Room Tip: we had a front facing room with shutters , it was ideal

We arrived at Newton House a little earlier than we had arranged, so no one was available to let us in, which was fine, we went a little walk around Knaresborough whilst we waited. To be honest, seeing the town I was a little concerned about how the hotel might be - the town is very tired, run-down looking, with no real " old market town" feel to it at all....but I needn't have worried, the hotel was lovely! I can't say I'm keen on the entrance hall/fernery/conservatory - it smells of wet earth, which was a little off-putting, but once inside I was very happy with the accommodation. Denise showed us to our room, ( room 1, very nice indeed ) suggested some places to eat ( Carriages - great, Bella Sicilia - not! ) then left us to our own devices. We slept well except for the noise of the fridge, not having one in our own bedroom at home! It ticks and rattles a little. Breakfast on both mornings was very nice, really nice waitress, and excellent jam - thanks, Denise! I'm not sure I'd take children here, apart from the fact that the town lacks pretty much every amenity, I think Newton House is better for adult stays. All in all, we were made very welcome, and enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Room 1 is at the front of the property, facing the road but don't worry the double glazing works...

Having decided to get married at Alleton Castle in early November 2011, we booked Newton House for the wedding weekend. We had the whole B&B to ourselves and everyone who stayed was delighted with the rooms and service. Rooms were immaculate and one guest said afterwards it was the comfiest bed he'd ever slept in. The breakfast was fabulous. It was lovely to spend the evening before the wedding with our friends and family in the B&B lounge. On our wedding night we stayed at Allerton Castle but our guests took full advantage of the lounge that night too! Denise and her staff were really helpful and we just couldn't fault our stay. We all enjoyed ourselves so much that we're planning to come and stay again.

This is a nice place to stay. Two dog friendly rooms off courtyard. Dogs well catered for. Room spacious. Breakfast delicious but rather disjointed - hot coffee rather cold by time warm milk arrived. Generally service at breakfast was a bit slow but worth the wait.

Room Tip: Dogs only in the two courtyard rooms. Non dog lovers are accommodated in other rooms in the main hou...

I stayed here for the Bradford Small Animal Show in 2011. The owners were friendly and helpful, and cooked amazing breakfasts! I was in the annex with my animals which was perfect and saved me carrying cages through the hotel or upstairs. I have been recommending Newton House to other exhibitors for the 2012 show!

Room Tip: There are pet-friendly rooms

Have stayed at Newton House three times for overnight breaks on trips to and from Glasgow/London. It's exactly halfway and very close to the A1 so perfect for exhausted drivers! We always have our dog with us and Newton House has several dog-friendly rooms and a welcoming attitude. We stayed in a spacious courtyard room, with huge bed, plenty of room for Wilfie and his canine accoutrements, nice bathroom and everything you'd normally expect. Breakfasts are excellent, with delicious mixes of fruits and cereals, and good choice of cooked dishes. Denise and her staff are delightful. The river and gorge in Knaresborough are stunning if you have time to take a look. Beds for dogs can be provided, and homemade dog biscuits are on hand. Wonderful!

Room Tip: Courtyard rooms perfect for those with dogs - can nip out for an early-morning or late-night pee wit...

We booked out all of the rooms at Newton House at the beginning of August 2011 for our guests when we got married at Allerton Castle and both our guests and ourselves were extremely impressed. Denise and the team were extremely welcoming and always helpful. The rooms were beautifully decorated and the breakfast was very well presented and tasted fantastic. We also returned in October and will be doing so again in the not too distance future.
