“A short stay in Yorkshire”
Reviewed 30 May 2013

We arrived on Sunday afternoon rather early but Denise was able to accomodate us with minimum fuss even though she had just arrived back from a weekend away herself. Our rooms were perfectly prepared and very comfortable with great attention paid to detail. The shutters were very effective at keeping the noise from the busy road outside to a level which did not disturb us at all.
We had a wide choice for breakfast of well cooked and presented food on both mornings that we were there. We all had different things and were all very pleased with our choices.
We found that the Hotel was well placed for catching trains and for going into town both of which were just minutes away. We would certainly stay there again when visiting the area.

What a lovely place, stayed in room number 1. A huge room very clean and spacious. A fab bed the best nights sleep i have had in weeks. The owner is a lovely lady very helpful and made us feel at home. Breakfast was fab ten out of ten. Will definately come back to this little gem of a place. Thank you to all the staff, wonderful.

Room Tip: Room one is fab.

Stayed here for 2 nights 7th & 8th May with friends. Both rooms were beautifully presented, warm and cosy with everything in them you could need. Breakfast both mornings was first class, and waitress was friendly and helpful. A sitting room for the evening with a bar with an honesty box for drinks, a little bowl of sweets in the room was a nice touch. Owner Denise was helpful giving lots of information re the area etc. An ideal place to stay if you want to go to York as the train station is only a 10 min walk away so no issues with parking in York. Will stay again if we are in that area. Would recommend asking for a room at the back as possibly the noise from the road may be a bit annoying.

Stayed at the Newton House for the third time in three years last month. We booked two single rooms for six nights and as with our two previous visits we had a fantastic time. Everything is perfect with this hotel and I honestly cannot think of anything more Denise can do to improve what is already a wonderful home from home place to stay. We will certainly be back again next year to once again experience the wonderful hospitality of Denise, Jackie and the rest of her staff.

We recently stayed at Newton House and found it to be extremely comfortable. Denise is very welcoming and her staff are very friendly, too. Our room (number 4 at the back) was quiet and very cosy with lots of lovely touches, enhancing the feel of exclusivity. The bathroom was spotless with nice toiletries. The hospitality tray was very comprehensive, as was the mini bar - unfortunately, as we were only there for one night, we couldn't indulge ourselves as much as we'd have liked! The breakfast menu was excellent, with lots of local produce. The fruit and cereal selection was probably the best we have been offered in any B&B. Porridge was also on the menu (something you don't see too much of these days), with the option of sultanas soaked in whiskey - delicious!!!! The staff at breakfast were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We would definitely return.
