“Work in Progress, worth supporting”
Reviewed 20 November 2013

Think I visited on a very quiet day - only a DMU running which happily trundled along the lengthy run ploughing through great flocks of ducks and pheasants from Redmire to Bedale. Beautiful scenery and we spotted a pair of eagles. Friendly, welcoming voluntary staff. Plans to extend at both ends of the line which will make it even more interesting in time. Looked to be substantial quantities of rolling stock awaiting restoration.

“Holiday highlight”
Reviewed 28 September 2013

This proved to be one of the highlights of our holiday. We decided to take the train from Redmire to Bedale, stopping off in Bedale for lunch. The time table makes it very clear when the diesel and steam trains run. Our outbound journey was a diesel which was strangely nostalgic. After a relaxed lunch we headed back on a steam loco - wonderful. All in all a great day out. Alot of hard work goes into this railway and it shows- the loos at Bedale station are immaculate!

“Great afternoon”
Reviewed 12 September 2013

We booked onto the steam train on a whim to entertain our two and a half year old son who loves anything to do with trains. Well kept train, a dining car offering refreshments and snacks and beautiful views. It was well worth it, even though we probably could have done a shorter journey and our son would've been just as happy. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful keeping us updated when the train stopped because it ran out of steam!! Thoroughly enjoyable afternoon out.

“A rare treat.”
Reviewed 31 August 2013

Wed 21st August. Went by coach to Leeming Bar and from there to Redmire courtesy of Wensleydale Railway - and courtesy is certainly the right word. The staff were all so friendly, helpful and informative. While we were waiting for our train a beautiful little steam engine arrived - someone was having a 'driver experience' and was photographed with his certificate - wouldn't it be strange if it were Debra B's Dad? Our train - pulled by an interesting diesel - duly arrived and off we went. We stopped at Leyburn for hour, which is not quite long enough to walk into the town but Leyburn Station has it's own attractions. There is a little garden centre, a tea shop and an amazing book/gift shop. Small - but packed with intriguing goodies! The hour passed very quickly and we went on to Redmire where our coach was waiting to take us on to Hawes - home of Wensleydale Cheese.

It was a lovely experience - I could have quite happily stayed and played trains all day. The staff that run the Wensleydale Railway are wonderful - so patient and friendly - and their love of trains comes across loud and clear.
