“A splendid find”
Reviewed 6 June 2010

A beautiful place set in wonderful gardens.Easy parking and easy to find. The staff are wonderful and the meals are just outstanding. The rooms are so clean and nice and comfortable beds. It is a nice quiet hotel as well. I could not fault this place although I did try to.I cannot wait to go back I just need another fix.

Had a one noight stay here on business with 7 colleagues earlier this month. The hotel is in a very nice settings and the building and grounds are brilliant. They really impressed our American colleagues.
The check in was quick and efficient and first impressions of the room were favourable.
We met for a couple of drinks as soon as we arrived and the bar was reasonably priced and the staff very good despite having to ring for them every time we (or anyone else in the bar) wanted a drink.

The room was very clean and tidy but the showers was abysmally weak. I reaaly struggled to get a decent shower under the piddling "spray" I was worried at one point whether or not I'd get the shampoo out of my hair and I can assure you the growth is not luxuriant by any means. This shower was pathetic.

It is always nice to see a hot drink available in the room and this was made even better by the provision of a cafetiere and some proper coffee.

Breakfast was very good although they started to become limited in what they could provide by the time we ate. Apparently the oven was playing up. What we did have however was very good.

All in all it was alright. Had the shower been up to scratch I would have had no real complaints.

Our first room was so hot we could not stay in it and when we told the manager he admitted that the radiator was permanently on! He gave another room which was better but only had one towel. Dinner was just about OK but the cooked breakfast was completely cold and inedible. The staff were pleasant but seemed completely untrained and there was no one to help s upstairs whith our bags.

We recently stayed at Monk Fryston Hall Hotel for my son's wedding. As we are not from Yorkshire we travelled up on the Thursday before the wedding. Arriving at the hotel we were met by a very pleasent man on reception and given the keys of our room. We had been upgraded to a superior room which was very good. It was a large room with a small hallway for coats etc., walk in wardrobe, canopied bed and spacious bathroom. All the staff at the hotel were very friendly and we spent some time in the bar on the first night with my son and future daughter-in-law on very comfy leather sofas. The only complaint about the room was we were directly above the main function room and on the first night there was a dinner dance and we did not get much sleep until the disco ended at 11.55. Also the terrace was below the room and the smokers that congregated were noisy as we had the windows open as it was a warm evening. After that we had no problem on the other 2 nights sleeping. The breakfast was very good and plenty enough to last the whole day. There was a selection of cereals, fruit, fruit juices and yoghurt to start with and the the full Yorkshire breakfast was great. There was also coissants, toast and rolls with jam and marmalade. On Friday afternoon the rest of the family and friends arrived and we spent a couple of hours socialising in the bar before walking across the road to the Crown pub for a very enjoyable meal. On our return some more friend had arrived so we stayed up in the bar for some time. This friend has a disabled son and the staff catered for him needs very well. they had a room on the groud floor of the hotel. On the actually wedding day the staff were excellent, even helping with putting on buttonholes for the men and women in our party. They also made sure that we had a large table reserves in the dining room for us all to have breakfast. We expressed concerns about the room assigned for the wedding as the weather had changed and it was very cold, the staff immediately said they would monitor it and if necessary put on the heating for us which they did. The meal we had at the reception was very good and the staff were excellent all day. The only complaint I have is in the evening there only appeared to be one person behind the bar therefore it was a bit of a wait to get drinks. The breakfast on the day after the wedding was a bit chaotic. Because there were a large number of people that stayed overnight they seemed to struggle with the orders taking the wrong plates to the wrong tables. They seem to employ young staff over the weekend and they need to be trained more but this in no way impaired the staffs ability to be very helpful and pleasent. All in all I was very impressed with the service and rooms and so were the rest of the party that stayed. This is a lovely venue for a wedding unfortunately we did not have time to explore the grounds due to bad weather and the wedding but these are exceptional also. Made for some lovely wedding pictures. My son's honeymoon suite was really nice and even the ordinary rooms were very comfortable. There is nothing really to complain about and I would certainly recommend to anyone. The village of Monk Fryston is very pretty but nowhere is too far away i.e. Leeds, York etc.

We stayed for 3 nights on business and the staff and the service they provided were excellent. Everyone was very friendly and all made conversation with you. The food was wonderful, we stayed on a 3 night special deal with DB&B. Rooms were lovely and spotless. We cannot wait to go back.

This is the second time I've stayyed at Monk Fryston - the first time was a 'romantic' weekend when we paid extra for the best room....ideal. This time was for a wedding, whilst it's a great venue the standard rooms are WELL overpriced - £110 for a room with a bathroom that a bodging DIY'er would have been embarssed at installing is taking the mick (Room 4).

Enjoyed the venue.....dissapointed in the room.
