We went to a Christmas meal with disco and singers. Party of 6. We had a lovely 3 course meal with a fantastic Christmas atmosphere. The party room was packed. We had a fab night. We didn't require a room as we only live a few miles away. Christmas party function only.

We stayed here many times in the past, but had'nt been for about 12 years. We took 2 rooms on the top floor and they were exactly what we expected. Beautifully clean, proper bathrooms and how nice to see a teapot with the hospitality tray. As mentioned in previous reviews the location cannot be faulted. We ate in the restaurant the first night, the food and service were good and excellent value. The service at reception was warm, welcoming and very helpful. In fact reception staff went out of their way to make us feel at home.
I know refurbishment is an ongoing thing but I did feel that our mattress in the Bishopdale room should be due for replacement before too long, sorry, it's only a minor quibble.
We've already booked to return next december, that is the best recommendation I can give.

We stayed here for 3 nights over a very busy pre christmas weekend. The hotel was full friday and saturday night with christmas parties which did not affect our enjoyment in any way. We ate in the hotel friday night and had the tapas menu, The food was excellent. The bar has a varied selection of well kept real ales. A real old fashioned hotel with good food, ale and great staff all at a bargain price,

We stayed on a Saturday night, thought it may be noisy, but we couldn't have been more wrong, loverly room, very quite ,the bar was a traditional pub style, plenty of locals to chat to,Yorkshire hospitality at its best!
Great location straight out of the front door and Betty's tea rooms opposite,a good market on the Saturday, free parking at the spacious car park at the back of the hotel.
Can,t wait to return.

This pub is very pleasant. Room was spacious, with large bathroom. Excellent service in Restaurant, and very good evening food, and at reasonable prices. Very good bar, with pleasant relaxing atmosphere and Guinness on tap.

The breakfast is less auspicious. Nothing special here. Very little fruit etc. Service is still great though, and good quality coffee.

Very convenient and entral to the town, with loads of parking.

Overall an excellent place to stay.

Room Tip: massive old building, probably a variety of room standards.

Great hotel in central location on the high street of this lovely market town. Friendly warm and welcoming old coaching inn. Food amazing. Very old building with individual comfortable rooms. Quirky slanting floor in some areas and odd sized steps. This all added to the charm of this spotlessly clean hotel. Choice of bars and eating areas. Menu very comprehensive with great offers. This is fresh wholesome fare cooked to order. Booked this on impulse the day before we went. Fantastic. Thought these kind of places had been lost, can't wait to go again.

With most pubs closing or becoming a theme pubs it was a pleasure to stay at this unspoilt well-appointed market Town Centre pub serving traditional drinks and food.
I will certainly recommend staying at this PUB again.

Room Tip: If you want to get up late in the morning try and book a room at the back of the Hotel.
